Job description

We seek applicants who want to join our accounting team and contribute to research and teaching in the field of accounting. Our accounting program includes courses at bachelor level, a master of accounting and control, and a variety of postgraduate programs. Our research covers all aspects of accounting in the broadest meaning, such as financial accounting, auditing, management accounting, control, taxation, and compliance. We have a preference to strengthen the group especially in the financial accounting specialization.  

Your duties
  • doing innovative research and developing an original research agenda resulting in publications in leading international academic journals
  • contribute to the design and delivery of courses across undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate programs
  • creating a stimulating learning environment for students at all levels (B.Sc., M.Sc., Ph.D.)
  • being active in acquiring research funds, individually and in collaboration with colleagues

Requirements

  • a PhD degree, specializing in accounting or finance
  • a good track record in Accounting education, as evidenced by excellent course evaluations
  • a strong research potential, preferably evidenced by publications in leading academic journals and by a pipeline of high-quality working papers and projects
  • fluency in English

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 6 years.

We offer an inspiring position in an international and ambitious research group. Depending on the candidate’s merits and career stage, the position may be filled as assistant professor (tenure track) or (tenured) associate professor. The initial employment contract for an assistant professor will be for a period of 6 years, with the possibility of obtaining a permanent position (tenure). In case of excellent performance, earlier tenure decisions are possible. For a position of associate professor, a tailored contract will be agreed upon.

About the department
The department of Accounting is a group of around 60 academics. We are active in areas like auditing, accounting information systems, financial accounting, management accounting, management control, regulation, compliance, tax, and corporate law. We teach in all SBE bachelor programs, and in the master programs Accounting and Control and Business Administration. Our research is concentrated in the Amsterdam Research Center in Accounting (ARCA). At ARCA, we conduct high-quality fundamental research as well as applied research. We aim to publish our results in premier peer-reviewed international journals. We also reach out actively to the business community in conducting research and in communicating research findings such as through executive programs and publications in professional journals.
