Job description

Are you a motivated and skilled research technician who can combine research with coordinating the running of a laboratory with other staff? Would you like to work with other technicians and staff to support research and organise laboratory procedures for a group fo 30 other researchers in the HMI group? We would like to get in contact with you.

You will ideally have experience in some of the following techniques: cell and/or organoid culture, flow cytometry, ELISA, microscopy, molecular techniques such as PCR, qPCR, RNA/DNA isolation, CrisprCas9 engineering, microbiology, protein work, multiplex bead assays, and cloning in bacteria or cells.

More about the research of the HMI group
Our research ranges from work on the molecular mechanisms of diseases caused by pathogenic bacteria to the interactions between the microbiome or beneficial bacteria and their human or animal hosts. The group combines expertise in, microbiology, molecular biology, cell biology, immunology and bioinformatics to further our understanding of the molecular interactions occurring in the cross-talk between microbes and their hosts. All our laboratories operate at Biosafety ML2 status and include laboratories for handling pathogens, tissue culture as well as biochemical and molecular biology research. We also share laboratories for histology, fluorescence microscopy and confocal imaging.

Requirements

  • A higher professional education in Medical Laboratory Research (HLO), or (HBO) Bachelor's or university BSc degree, or equivalent, in animal science or (applied) biology
  • A professional, flexible and organised method of working
  • Preferably experience with overseeing safe working practices and key laboratory operations with other technical staff
  • 5 years laboratory proven experience

You strive well in an international team consisting of academic staff, post-doctoral researchers, PhD students, technicians and Master students. You take responsibility for tasks and help out others when needed. You can organize your own work, delegate tasks to colleagues and work on multiple research projects.

Depending on your experience, we offer a competitive salary of between €2.700,- and € 4.078,- for a full-time working week of 38 hours, in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreements for Dutch Universities (CAO-NU) (scale 8 or 9). Additionally, a contract for 0.8 FTE can be discussed.
