The Department of Organization Studies at Tilburg School of Social and Behavioral Sciences (TSB) invites applications for a PhD Candidate/Junior Lecturer in Organization Studies to begin preferably on 1 August 2022. As a PhD Candidate/Junior Lecturer, you will have both research (50%) and teaching (50%) duties for a 6-year period.

Job description

Tasks
Research
You will work on a Ph.D. project under the supervision of dr. Tine Buyl and dr. Roel Rutten. Your research will focus on the dynamics of regional development networks. Regional development networks are inter-organizational teams of organizational decision-makers. Team members are mostly senior persons from public and private organizations that participate in the network. Regional development networks are goal-directed networks, aimed at developing and implementing regional development policy; for example, furthering cross-border collaboration between Flemish and Dutch small and medium-sized enterprises on new product development. The dynamics, both in terms of how the regional development networks evolve over time and of how team members interact, are decisive for the effectiveness of these networks. Understanding and explaining these dynamics contributes importantly to the literature on both team and network effectiveness. It also contributes to improving the practice of network management.
The research has a strong qualitative component. You will conduct multiple in-depth case studies into the dynamics of regional development networks. In particular, you will be trained in set-theoretical methods for case-based causal inference. To collect data, you will work together with consultants from ERAC (European Regional Affairs Consultants, see erac.nl).

Teaching
Your teaching responsibilities include giving tutorials/lectures and assisting lecturer teams in courses featured in the Bachelor’s degree programs offered by the Department of Organization Studies (e.g., Relationships and Networks of Organizations; Introduction to Organization Studies; Strategy and Organization), as well as in the Master’s degree programs (e.g., Interorganizational Networks; Organizing Strategy and Entrepreneurship). You will also be invited to supervise Bachelor students in writing their theses. You will have the opportunity to obtain your university teaching qualification.
