Are you ready to be the financial strategic advisor and partner to RSM's Executive Board, and lead a team that provides data-driven financial information to a top business school?

As Director of Finance, Control and Risk, you will support the Dean in setting directions, formulating policies and executing strategic choices for the School. There is a need to develop a data-driven culture within the organisation, to further optimise the school's financial performance based on fact-based decision-making,

The department of Finance, Control and Risk has a pivotal role in realising this ambition. The team aspires to foster a data-centric culture when proactively providing information and advice for every management decision.

As the director, you will lead the team in using the data insights and putting them to use when advising the Executive Board in steering the school's strategy implementation.

Your main tasks
  • Be responsible for the development of the financial column and strategic finances of the school as a whole
  • Create yearly financial objectives that are aligned with the organisation's strategies and current and projected revenue streams
  • Assess and evaluate financial performance with respect to organisational goals, budgets and forecasts, and provide analysis to the Executive Board on a regular basis
  • Oversee all (financial) risks and proactively come up with recommendations
  • Be a solid advisor who takes the management along in the policy to be pursued and discusses the (financial) economic consequences of intended policy or choices
  • Think along in practical solutions, and are also aware of the requirements and conditions within which this can take place
  • Manage five direct reports and further professionalise the finance and control function within the department

Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR)

Requirements

  • Minimum master degree in finance, business administration, accounting or economics.
  • A completed post-master degree, such as for Registered Accountant or Registered Controller, is a plus
  • At least 10 years of relevant experience and affinity with this kind of work within an organisation with complex business or project control
  • A helicopter view with an eye for details
  • A clear vision on the product and services within a finance and control department
  • Knowledge on government funding and various money streams within a university is a plus

Your required competencies
  • Strong background in the domain of finance, control and risk management
  • Forward-thinking, critical, and proactive
  • Evident managerial experience and strong leadership abilities
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain excellent relationships with multiple stakeholders
  • Good command of both spoken and written Dutch and English (C1)
  • Experience and affinity with ICT, BI tooling and business process management

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: Initially for 1 year with the intention to extend.

The position is for 0,8 to 1,0 FTE, initially for one year with the intention to extend.

The start date of this position is as soon as possible, but preferably not later than 1 April 2022.

You will be based at the Erasmus University's Woudestein campus, Rotterdam, with the possibility of blended working for a good work-life balance. The terms of employment are in accordance with the CAO NU (collective labour agreement for Dutch universities). Salary is subject to training and experience and may vary from a minimum of € 5.542 up to a maximum of € 7.054 gross per month, based on a full-time employment contract.
Erasmus University offers an attractive terms of employment package, including an 8 per cent holiday allowance and an 8.3 per cent end-of-year bonus, plus a generous number of vacation days.

Business and Project Control (BPC) provides professional service to all RSM employees regarding financial topics such as external hiring, declaration of expenses, procurement guidelines, grant budgeting advice and much more. The goal of the department is to be the economic conscience of the faculty. BPC is responsible for delivering management information to enable decision making, for monitoring of strategy implementation, and for reporting to internal and external stakeholders. The department lends advice and reporting to management (administrative and academic department heads, treasurers, members of the Executive Board) for leading and managing the organisation. It follows a planning and control cycle to manage these tasks.
