You will be responsible for teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses in criminal law and supervising (under)graduate dissertations as part of the Dutch Law programme and the Global Law Bachelor. You will work with colleagues in delivering the curriculum and have experience with interactive teaching and use of technology-enhanced learning. You will be course leader/coordinator of at least one module. You participate in research-led teaching, including promoting and developing student competencies related to research, and incorporate your disciplinary expertise into your teaching. As a researcher you establish and maintain expertise at the forefront of your expertise/disciplinary area and you contribute to the department’s research plan (Signature Plan) ‘Law and Security’. Ideally, your research has a multidisciplinary and international perspective. You are willing and able to carry out administrative tasks within the department, the School or the university. As an Assistant professor you will have:

• A PhD in criminal law and/or criminal justice;
• Experience of teaching in criminal law and/or criminal justice in Higher Education;
• University Teaching Qualification (BKO or equivalent) or the willingness to get one;
• Excellent communication skills to enable knowledge transfer in a clear, enthusiastic, open and inclusive manner;
• A solid research profile evidenced through publications;
• The ability to contribute to the Department’s Signature Plan on Law and Security;
• Affinity with interdisciplinary and international research;
• A collaborative attitude based on values of inclusion, equality and respect;
• The willingness to learn Dutch and to teach Dutch criminal law, within 18 months after being appointed.

Desirable:

• Experience and affinity with social science/empirical research; 
• Experience in an administrative role.

The starting gross salary varies between € 3,821 and € 5,230 (full time) based on scale 11 of the Collective Labor Agreement Universities (vsnu.nl). Tilburg University offers you an employment agreement for a fixed period of 12 to 18 months with a prospect of a permanent appointment, for 1,0 FTE (40 hours per week). 

You are entitled to a holiday allowance amounting to 8% and a year-end bonus of 8.3% of your gross yearly income. If you work 40 hours per week, you receive 41 days of paid recreational leave per year.

The Department of Criminal Law has a multidisciplinary composition in which both criminal (procedural) law and social science approaches to crime and victimization have a place, and it provides education and research in the field of criminal law, criminology, victimology, and forensic psychiatry. The Department has four regular (part full-time, part part-time) chairs: in criminal (procedural) law, in criminology, in human trafficking and globalization, and in financial-economic criminal law. In addition, there is an endowed chair in forensic psychiatry. Currently, the Department has about 30 permanent staff members.
