Description of the Chair

  • How can safety and security incidents be understood from an integrated safety and security perspective, so that the analysis addresses both intentional and non-intentional causes, as well as the protection of both people and systems?
  • What is the role of technological developments in the emergence and treatment of non-intentional threats and hazards?
  • What contribution can an integrated safety and security perspective make to the formulation of public policy and policy objectives?
  • What contribution can an integrated safety and security perspective make to increasing our understanding of the complexity of modern-day incidents?

Research and teaching within the Chair will be expected to address and analyse current cases and application domains that merit both safety and security attention (including but not limited to man-made and natural disasters, industrial safety and security, climate change, and/or public health and pandemics).
