Job description

The Department of Water Management is actively looking for an ambitious and enthusiastic Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the field of water smart solutions based on resource recovery. The successful candidate will join the Urban Water Infrastructure (UWI) group led by Prof. Zoran Kapelan and will be employed as part of the ongoing EU Wider Uptake project, co-investigated by Prof Jan Peter van der Hoek.

The successful candidate is expected to contribute to research, education and other activities in the UWI group and the Department, starting in May 2022.

The key job responsibilities include:

  • Research: Delivering high quality, internationally leading research in the field of water-smart solutions based on resource recovery. The potential research areas include but are not limited to the development of new methods, metrics and tools for the assessment of smartness of these solutions and related roadmaps ensuring their wider uptake in practice.
  • Education: Supporting the UWI group and the Department of Water Management in the development and delivery of undergraduate and especially postgraduate taught courses with focus on urban water management. Supervising MSc and BSc students and assisting PhD students, preparing and assessing student projects, assignments and exam papers.

Requirements

The successful candidate needs to have:

(i) A PhD or equivalent degree in civil or chemical engineering, industrial ecology or related disciplines;

(ii) Knowledge of water/wastewater treatment, resource recovery and related technologies;

(iii) Proven ability to deliver high quality research as evidenced in publications record and otherwise;

(iv) Independence and teamwork skills with proactive attitude to work;

(v) Capacity to communicate effectively with peers, students, stakeholders and external partners;

(vi) Good understanding of the higher education environment including diversity and inclusion values.

Preference will be given to candidates who have:
a) Experience in developing water and wastewater based resource recovery solutions including related assessment of smartness and sustainability of these solutions;
b) Experience in obtaining funding for research projects;
c) Experience in teaching and supervising students.
