Job description

Do you want to work on a key challenge for the future of the circular economy? Do you have a drive for performing fundamental research that leads to technological innovations? Are you interested in working in an interdisciplinary team on environmental technologies for water, soil, sludges, and other organic wastes?

The department of Environmental Technology is looking for a new tenure tracker to strengthen and expand our research on treatment technologies for removal of organic micropollutants (contaminants of emerging concern; CECs). Specifically, the position focuses on technologies to remove micropollutants from solid phases that rely on a combination of physical, chemical, and biological processes. This entails research on sorption, oxidation, biodegradation, biofilm formation and a combination of these processes.

The tenure tracker should have a strong background in reactor systems, able to model the processes in these reactors and design and execute research with novel reactors for micropollutant removal. The group currently focuses almost exclusively on hydrophilic micropollutants and the new tenure tracker should help to expand the group's research to include less hydrophilic compounds. Such hydrophobic compounds are found in organic solid phases, focusing on the fate and removal of micropollutants more likely to remain in solid phases in treatment systems, such as soils, sludges, and other organic wastes. This position meets societal and research demands on the removal of hydrophobic and other strongly sorbing micropollutants from organic waste streams that must be treated and reused to achieve a circular economy.

In a challenging career trajectory you are, as Assistant Professor in the field of Treating Micropollutants in Solid Phases responsible for the organization, implementation and coordination of new research activities in the field of micropollutant treatment technologies as well as building up a leading international position. In this position you will also be motivating and teaching students and develop new courses. Training and coaching is provided for the Assistant Professor to accomplish this.

In this challenging career trajectory:
  • you acquire, lead and implement innovative and creative(inter-) national research projects in Environmental Technology;
  • you collaborate with colleagues and supervise PhD students, BSc and MSc theses and you develop and teach courses;
  • you contribute to the further development of Environmental Technology.
Tenure Track is a career path for hardworking scientists who pursue to excel in education and research. We seek to attract scientific talent and to stimulate and support their development.
