As Senior Grant Advisor your main responsibility is to find opportunities for national and European research funding and then work with one or more researchers to win said funding.

You will be recruited for the grants team at the central Erasmus Research Services (ERS) where you will spend 50% of your time working on major research initiatives, meaning multi-stakeholder proposals where EUR is the coordinator. In addition, the members of the team are each seconded to a particular faculty, and in your case this would be the Erasmus School of Health Policy & Management. You will act as the grant advisor within their Research Office and support the faculty with their grant-related processes, provide overviews and advise the researchers with personal grants and collaborative proposals in which they are a partner.

As an ERS grant advisor you will go beyond advising researchers on the intricacies of research funding schemes; you will pro-actively match funding opportunities with suitable talent, act as a sparring partner in developing research concepts and help with reframing and rewriting where necessary. In the case of major proposals for collaborative projects, you will take ownership of the multi-stakeholder process of preparing a collaborative proposal and become the lead researcher’s right hand in leading the consortium towards a strong proposal.

In addition, as a senior on the team you will provide a contribution to developing the grants team’s ways of working and training the more junior members of the team. You represent ERS internally and externally and convey our values.

Together we foster a culture amongst researchers and professional staff that stimulates funding ambitions, you will build and maintain a network with relevant institutes (s.a. hospitals and governmental bodies) and act as an expert advisor and source of information for internal and external stakeholders. 

Main responsibilities:

• Be the right hand to lead researchers preparing major collaborative research proposals;
• Share your knowledge and expertise with grant advisor colleagues;
• Help develop processes and procedures within the still young ERS grants support team;
• Scout for project ideas within the faculty of ESHPM;
• Identify and communicate opportunities for personal and collaborative research grants at NWO and other national research funders as well as at the European level (Horizon Europe);
• Support ESHPM researchers as they apply for research grants, and coach them throughout the application process;
• Act as first point of contact for ESHPM researchers who want to apply for a grant and organize internal alignment with relevant processes such as financial and project control;
• Devise and improve acquisition strategies at ESHPM in collaboration with the department heads and the Research Office;
• Represent ESHPM at the Benelux EIT Health branch;
• Organize and develop in collaboration with your colleagues at the ERS grants support office information sessions, trainings and workshops about research grant opportunities in the field of the health sciences;
• Proactively engage with external contacts like partner institutes, societal stakeholders and relevant agencies to anticipate new developments and to help in building consortia.

Required experience, skills and competencies:

• The ambition and willingness to work towards capacity building the university to become increasingly more successful and ambitious in the field of grants;
• Several years (3+) of relevant work experience in supporting and advising in the application of NWO or Horizon research grants;
• The ambition to take on the significant challenge of coordinating a group of intersectoral, interdisciplinary and international stakeholders as they work towards a major collaborative grant. Prior experience will be viewed positively;
• An academic level of thinking and working. A doctorate in the health sciences, or one of our related disciplines (s.a. economics, econometrics, organisational/political sciences, (health) law), will be viewed positively but is not a requirement;
• The capacity to collaborate with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders;
• An entrepreneurial, hands-on and open attitude; excellent organization skills;
• Proactive, stress-resistant, ability to deliver under peak performance;
• Excellent verbal and written command of English (CEFR level C1). Dutch language skills will be viewed positively;
• Aware of organizational sensitivities, empathetic, goal oriented.

An internationally oriented and varied work environment within an enthusiastic team, with attractive fringe benefits in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO-NU). We offer a contract initially for one year (1 fte, full-time appointment is 38 hours) which may become permanent if your performance is satisfactory. Your starting salary as Senior Grant Advisor will depend on your prior experience and your skills and ranges between Scale 11 or 12 of CAO-NU (€ 3.821.- to € 5.943,- gross per month).

Erasmus School of Health Policy & Management (ESHPM) of Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR) is leading in the Netherlands and Europe with its educational and research activities, focused on policy and management topics in healthcare. ESHPM provides a bachelor's degree, five master's degree programmes, a pre-master programme and postgraduate education.

At ESHPM, research and education are closely linked.
