The Clinical Psychology team at the Department of Psychology, Education & Child Studies at the Erasmus University Rotterdam is looking for two Assistant Professors to strengthen our team in our education program and research topics.

We are particularly interested in candidates with a strong clinical background and/or experimental psychopathology research background.
We recognize individual preferences and do not expect you to excel in both! We aim to hire one candidate with a more clinical/teaching profile and one candidate with a more research-focused profile.

Job description

As an Assistant Professor you will be working in our Clinical & Health Psychology team. You develop your own innovative research line, which fits the general research lines of the group: Experimental Psychopathology of emotional disorders, pain, and addiction, and Developmental Psychopathology.

You will be participating in teaching in the Bachelor’s degree program in Psychology in the domains relevant to Clinical Psychology and the international Master’s degree program in Clinical Psychology. Teaching involves (large-scale) lectures, (small-scale) workgroups, clinical practicals, and individual supervision of clinical internships and research theses, along with more general tasks of coordination and administration.

The ratio of research / teaching time is 40% / 60%, but 30% / 70% is possible depending on the preference of the candidate. Successful grant applications may also lead to teaching load reductions.

The core tasks include:

  • participating in teaching at a Bachelor’s and Master’s level.
  • coordination of parts of the curriculum;
  • participating in one or more of the research programs of the group;
  • publishing research findings in international scientific journals;
  • contributing to the acquisition of external research funding for the benefit of the research program.

Requirements

We are looking for an enthusiastic colleague (m/f/x) who:

  • has a PhD in a topic relevant to clinical psychology or experimental psychopathology;
  • has scientific creativity and productivity, as shown by recent peer-reviewed publications;
  • has creative and innovative research ideas (fitting the general research lines of the group);
  • has clinical training and experience (clinical registration is a plus);
  • has experience with teaching in clinical psychology or related areas;
  • has the ability to, and preferably experience with, acquiring research funding;
  • is highly motivated to contribute to open science;
  • has excellent social skills and is a team player

Conditions of employment

An internationally oriented and varied job in an enthusiastic team, with good working conditions in accordance with the Collective Labor Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU).

The start date of this position is 01/09/2022 and you will be based at ESSB/DPECS in Woudestein Campus. The successful candidate will be offered a full-time, one year contract with Erasmus University Rotterdam. This contract can, in case of positive assessment and unchanged organizational circumstances, be turned into a fixed employment contract. In accordance with the conditions applied at Erasmus University Rotterdam as indicated in the Collective Labour Agreement (CAO NU) of the Dutch universities, the salary is dependent on the candidate’s experience and is set at a maximum of CAO NU scale [11] with a minimum of  € 3821,- and a maximum of € 5230,- gross per month, on a fulltime basis. In addition, EUR pays an 8% holiday allowance and an end-of-year payment of 8.3% and offers excellent secondary benefits, and a very generous leave scheme. Furthermore, EUR is affiliated with ABP for the pension provision and we offer partially paid parental leave, fully paid extended birth leave for partners, a personal education budget, work-life balance coaches and more. Department of Psychology, Education & Child Studies

The Department of Psychology, Education & Child Studies provides education and research in the area of psychological sciences and is embedded within the Erasmus School of Social and Behavioural Sciences. The Erasmus Clinical Psychology team consists of five research groups with separate, but inter-connected research agendas: Experimental Psychopathology of Emotional Disorders and Affective Neuroscience, Substance Use and Addiction Science, Developmental Psychopathology, Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy, and Health Psychology. Together, these groups are committed to a “From Lab to Society” research idea, which aims at a strong mutual connection between experimental research and clinical practice and health promotion.
