You will be part of the team of developers and research engineers. DANS is one of approximately 120 research data repositories world-wide that are certified as trustworthy by CoreTrustSeal. DANS is an active contributor to the Dataverse project, which we use as the core of our repository management system. You will be primarily involved in the extension, refinement, and improvement of Dataverse and its peripheral services.

You have ideally completed a tertiary education in Computer Science or Engineering, but individuals with extensive coding experience - in the order of 5 years or more - will also be welcome to apply. You are motivated, flexible, and focused on results. Workable knowledge of the English language will be an asset; proficiency in Dutch is expected. You are knowledgeable about and demonstrably experienced in the following:

• OS:
  • Linux command line tools
• Programming languages:
  • Java (extensive working experience)
  • Python
• Databases:
  • Relational databases
  • Hibernate, Java Persistence API
• Web:
  • Creating HTTP-based (RESTful) services. Extensive knowledge of HTTP.
  • HTML / JavaScript: experience with jQuery or similar framework
  • CSS
  • XML technologies including XML Schema and XSLT
  • JSON: experience with Jackson, or similar library
• DevOps:
  • Vagrant
  • Ansible
• Software development:
  • Git, GitHub
  • Capable of doing and receiving code reviews

Experience with tape systems (DMF) will be an advantage.

Fixed-term contract: 1 jaar met kans op verlenging naar onbepaalde tijd.

Depending on education and experience the minimum salary is € 2.960 and the maximum salary is € 6.181 gross per month for a full-time appointment (scale10 - scale12 cao Nederlandse Universiteiten/KNAW). This is exclusive of 8% vacation allowance, 8.3% year-end bonus, travel allowance, internet allowance, home working allowance and pension accrual with ABP.

DANS

DANS - Data Archiving and Networked Services (DANS-KNAW) - is the Dutch national centre of expertise and repository for research data. We are a service provider that helps researchers to make their data available for reuse. This allows other scientists to use the data for new research and makes published research verifiable and reproducible. With more than 200,000 datasets, dozens of European projects and a staff of 60, DANS is among the leading data repositories in Europe.
