As a project controller you are the financial brain of our research projects during the project cycle. From the development of a funding proposal to the final audit closing, you advise and take care of the financial control of externally funded projects. You have a challenging project portfolio consisting of research and education projects funded by institutional funders such as the European Commission and NWO. As a project controller you manage a 3 million budget divided over 50 projects. You work largely independently, and you can always consult the Business Controller. You are a proactive communicator in your role as linking pin between the financial department, the project manager, academic project leaders and external advisors/auditors.

Your main tasks are

• Advising and informing the project manager and (academic) project leaders about all internal and external regulations relating to external funding;
• Drawing up project budgets for new projects in collaboration with the (academic) project leaders;
• Drawing up periodic reports and prognoses by collecting and presenting financial information, and making a comparative analysis for budgets (budget monitoring) of projects in order to identify discrepancies in the realisation of project budgets;
• Ensuring the correct administration of the project finances by making overviews and entries for the central financial department;
• Drawing up financial reports for fund providers, preparing internal and external audits and supervising project audits by external auditors;
• Settling the final accounts in accordance with the subsidy conditions upon delivery of projects;
• Supporting the Business Controller where necessary in drawing up the Faculty budget, periodic (management) reports and forecasts, particularly in relation to projects;

You report functionally to the Business Controller and are part of the Finance team. You will maintain good relations with your colleagues from the other faculties within Erasmus University Rotterdam and with the staff of the central financial service team.

• You have a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or Finance with several years of relevant work experience in project administration and/or project control. Preferably, you have experience as a project controller with externally funded projects in a research organisation;
• You are result-oriented, accurate and have strong (intercultural) communication skills; an excellent command of the Dutch and English languages, both oral and written, is a must;
• You have excellent skills in Excel, Word and SAP and extensive experience in making and preparing reports;
• You are able to quickly understand, explain and advise non-financial experts on complex and extensive financial rules and regulatory frameworks
• You have a great sense of responsibility, can organise your work efficiently within tight deadlines and have a high degree of independence.
• You are able to work in a highly international environment

An internationally oriented and varied job in an enthusiastic team, with good working conditions in accordance with the Collective Labor Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU).

The position is for 0.8-1.0 FTE. The salary is dependent on your experience and knowledge and ranges from a minimum of €2.846 to a maximum of €5.230 gross per month on a fulltime basis, in accordance with scale 10/11 of the CAO-NU. In addition, we offer an 8% holiday allowance, an end-of-year payment of 8.3%, and a very generous paid leave scheme. The Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication

The Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication (ESHCC) is part of Erasmus University Rotterdam. The school has three departments: History,  Arts and Culture and Media & Communication. There are approximately 2500 students and over 220 employees.

ESHCC offers high quality education, based on scientific research, at the intersection of the Humanities and Social Sciences. We teach our ambitious, Dutch and international students in a stimulating learning environment.
