Job description

If the answer is yes, you may be the person we are looking for. 

BPRC has various animal models for serious debilitating diseases. Our challenge is to develop laboratory animal-free models for these conditions. BPRC has ample experience in the field of 3Rs (refinement, reduction and replacement). In order to strengthen knowledge and development in the field of animal-free methods within the BPRC, we are looking for a coordinator animal-free innovations.

As a coordinator you further expand opportunities for already existing laboratory animal -free innovations, and look for new animal-free techniques of importance for the research that is done within BPRC. You’ll report directly to our director. You’ll be a member of our council, which coordinates organizational policies with our managing board and all department heads. You provide scientific direction and ensure a fruitful collaboration and cross-fertilization with all other research departments.

Who we are looking for 

We are looking for a candidatewith proven scientific and managerial skills who can independently shape and propagate developments in the field of animal-free innovations within and outside the institute. He/she is used to linking knowledge to novel developments in society and science 

We are looking for someone who has the following characteristics:

  • Doctorate in a relevant field within biomedical science; 
  • Owns a network in the field of animal-free innovations;
  • Knowledge of animal testing, the public debate and experience with the development of new methods to replace animal testing is recommended;
  • Demonstrated affinity and experience with management of professionals;
  • Profound track record in scientific research as well as experience in fundraising;
  • Good communication skills, an inspiration to employees; a connector
  • Flexible and driven;
  • Good oral and written skills in English and preferably Dutch.

BPRC is a not-for-profit scientific research institute where fundamental and applied research into biomedical problems is performed with the aim to apply the knowledge derived from such experiments to alleviate suffering in humans. The aim of our exploratory research is to generate in depth knowledge of the course of serious human diseases. This knowledge is then applied to the development of new drugs and treatments. In some cases, important research questions cannot be answered other than by undertaking animal experiments. BPRC is specialized in research using non-human primate models.
