At Biometris we develop statistical and mathematical methods for the quantification of biological processes and processes in our living environment. These methods are applied and validated in practice and are often available as software packages.

One of the domains in which Biometris is strongly involved is exposure and risk assessment of chemicals in foods. In close collaboration with the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) we develop science-based models for chemical risk assessment and implement these in the Monte Carlo Risk Assessment (MCRA) web platform. The MCRA web platform is a unique modelling platform that is accepted for use in the regulatory domain by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and also continuously enriched with novel, state-of-the-art scientific models.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, scientific software developer to strengthen our team in extending, improving and maintaining the MCRA web platform and related software. In this role, you will implement complex statistical and mathematical models in ready-to-use software that is accompanied with an accessible, easy-to-use, user interface. You will help us keeping up to date with latest technologies and contribute to continuous improvement of the software and our software development process. Aside from your role as software developer, you will have the opportunity to fulfill a role as a scientist, by contributing to the development of novel quantitative models or improving on existing models.

Your tasks:

• Translate statistical and mathematical models to efficient and high quality software implementations (C#);
• Update and extend the RESTful Web API (.NET core) to improve connectivity with other (external) software and tools in the domain of chemical risk assessment;
• Improve the frontend web application (Angular/TypeScript) with new features and better user friendliness;
• Contribute to migrate the codebase to a containerized architecture that can be deployed on the Azure ecosystem;
• Write automated test and update the documentation (Python/Sphinx);
• Contribute to, and take initiative in continuous improvement of the quality of the software, keeping on track with the latest technology, and further improving our agile development process.

The selected candidate will initially be appointed for two years. At the end of this period an evaluation will follow with a possibility to obtain a permanent position.
