Job description

The TU Delft has a position available within the Bio Process Engineering PDEng Program for a part-time (24 hours/week) Senior Design Engineer (PDEng Coach/Mentor) in the area of bioprocess design and engineering. The objective of the position is to coach/mentor PDEng trainees in Group and Individual Design Projects in cooperation with industrial partners. Key aspects that are emphasized are: design methodology; design problem formulation; synthesizing innovative design options and analyzing and evaluating those on their technological, economical, and HSE merits; communicating design results and project progress; and project management. Acquiring and formulating industrially relevant, innovation-oriented PDEng level design projects in conjunction with industrial partners, knowledge institutes and TU Delft research groups is another important aspect of the position. The scope of the PDEng design projects is very broad as they are strongly linked to the TU Delft scientific and technological disciplines in the biochemical engineering area, ranging from fundamental biological sciences, via (bio)chemical conversion, reactor, separation and energy technology, to integrated systems engineering, and are carried out for a wide range of industries in the (bio)chemical, life sciences, food, environment, and energy sector.

PDEng Program

In the PDEng programs, MSc graduates, besides deepening and broadening their technical and business knowledge, receive training in teamwork, multi-disciplinary problem-solving, and project management. These PDEng trainees will gain expertise in product and process development, conceptual design and engineering activities. A one year design project for (and mostly in) the industry completes the PDEng thesis. Design projects are focused on translating the latest academic knowledge into real industrial applications. The PDEng design programs are a joint initiative of and sponsored by Dutch industry and the Dutch government. More information about the programs is available at www.pdeng.tudelft.nl.
