Job description

As researcher-lecturer in the Building with nature research group, you will connect the latest developments in the landscape field with human behaviour and experience in a unique manner. One of our research questions is: "How can the spatial design of land-water transitions anticipate on different scenarios for (accelerated) sea level rise?" Has this raised your curiosity, are you driven, and do you have a preference for society and engineering, commitment to the field and to students? Does doing practice-based research with impact in the research group Building with Nature appeal to you? Then apply for the vacancy of researcher-lecturer Building with nature Coastal modeler at HZ University of Applied Sciences in Middelburg.

Your work as a researcher-teacher

The research group focuses on research into natural forms of coastal defence such as the installation of oyster reefs and salt marshes. Based on your expertise, you will participate in research aimed at mapping the consequences of technical interventions on the morphological and ecological functioning of the coastal system. You will do this by carrying out computer simulations and analysing data relating to, for example, the physical feasibility of innovative levee concepts that can grow with sea level rise.

For you as a researcher-teacher, carrying out practice-based research in a team is central. You will apply your knowledge and skills with enthusiasm in carrying out the sub-projects and in training students to become enterprising, innovative and driven professionals in a sustainable world. You will do this by:

  • Conducting independent hands-on research, including setting up and simulating the eco-morphological development of the coastal zone with advanced computer models. Also carrying out ecological and morphological fieldwork along the land-water transitions of the Western and Eastern Scheldt is part of the range of tasks
