The Stratingh Institute for Chemistry is looking for a motivated research technician to support the laboratory operations of several of its Organic Chemistry groups.

The Research Technician Organic Chemistry will support the (PhD)-students and Post Docs by facilitating their research. This comprises general lab management including electronic lab journals, safety management and handling chemicals, and technical assistance in experimental chemistry. It includes also the purchase and installation of new laboratory equipment, maintaining contacts with suppliers as well as taking responsibility for laboratory equipment maintenance. The introduction of (PhD)-students to equipment is part of the tasks.

Requirements

• HBO degree or equivalent abroad in Organic Chemistry or related field
• experience in operation and maintenance of laboratory equipment
• experience with student training and supervision in the lab
• an interest in new developments in lab technology
• the ability to set priorities
• proactive independent mindset and service mentality
• good communication skills, including communication in Dutch and English.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 12 months.

The University of Groningen offers, in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities:

- a salary from a minimum of € 2,710 (salary scale 8) up to a maximum of € 4,093 (salary scale 9) gross per month for a full-time position depending of relevant experience and training
- a holiday allowance of 8% gross annual income an 8.3% end-of-the-year allowance
- a time-limited employment for one year. If the outcome of the evaluation after one year is positive, the appointment will be prolonged for an indefinite term.

Within the Faculty of Science & Engineering, the research carried out in the Stratingh Institute for Chemistry comprises organic synthesis, catalysis, chemical biology, supramolecular chemistry, organic materials and molecular inorganic chemistry. The staff of the institute has a main role in the education in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering. The institute comprises around 100 PhD students together with postdocs, and the nineteen research groups are assisted by a team of technical support staff.
