Job description

TU/e has made an impressive educational transition aimed at training future engineers, through the implementation of the Bachelor College in 2012 and the Graduate School in 2013. TU/e has the ambition to offer small scale and personalized education in 2030. Therefore, we need enthusiastic, motivated teachers who can really connect with the students and would like to have impact on their study career.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering offers multiple positions for teachers. You will combine teaching courses and supervising challenge-based learning projects in our BSc program and teach the more general courses in our MSc programs. You will support academic staff in our master's programs and you are eager to learn how to teach in a variety of courses and how to innovate courses and projects to prepare students in their development as engineers for the future. This means you take the lead in front of a group of students and cooperate with colleagues to organize for the classes and align your contributions to theirs. You do not mind taking up different tasks and you do have experience with rotating tasks as an opportunity to learn from.

As a teacher you will be (co)responsible for:
  • teaching Bachelor courses of the department of Mechanical Engineering in one of the three fields of the department: Mechanics & Materials, Dynamics, Systems & Control, and Energy & Flow.This includes the organization, co-design and assessment of the courses and projects; 
  • supervising students in their individual final Bachelor project;
  • support academic staff in the specialization courses of the master's programs coordinated by the department of Mechanical Engineering, e.g., by preparing course materials and/or guide and assess group work;
  • further development of courses in terms of developing online educational modules and online assessment, using e.g. methods such as learning analytics.

Requirements

  • you have an MSc or PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering or another relevant Engineering discipline
  • you have excellent communication skills and you are fluent in English;
  • you are willing to start up a UTQ (University Teaching Qualification) trajectory. 

Conditions of employment

  • 1.0 FTE appointment. (0.8 fte is an option that can be discussed).

  • An initial  temporary appointment for a period of one year with the intention to convert this into a permanent contract at a mutual positive evaluation.
