The Department of Developmental Psychology of Tilburg School of Social and Behavioral Sciences is looking for 1 Assistant Professor of Developmental and Lifespan Psychology
tenure track (1,0 fte), tenure decision after 18 months

Job description

Tasks are coordinated with the head of department, and typically include:

Research (overall research time ca. 50%)

  • Research in lifespan psychology, developmental psychology and/or individual differences
  • Contribute high quality papers as first or senior author
  • Write personal career grant proposals 
    (e.g., NWO Veni/Vidi, ERC Starter/Consolidator grant)

Teaching (overall teaching load ca. 50%, including management)

  • Design and teach challenging and engaging lectures in the programs of the department. Expertise in the development of personal relationships is an advantage
  • Mentor BA, MA, and PhD students by supervising theses and (academic) internships
  • Excellent command of the Dutch language (non-Dutch staff members are expected to follow Dutch courses – expenses are paid for by the department, and time invested is subtracted from teaching if possible)

Other

  • Academic citizenship (e.g., supporting department members with projects and proposals, committee memberships, etc.)

Requirements

Good CV to apply for personal grants 

  • Consistent record of high impact publications as first or senior author
  • Competitive citation record
  • (Recent) PhD completion
  • Team player and willing to cooperate with others in the department
  • Willing to cooperate with schools and other external stakeholders

Methodological expertise in one of the following domains

  • Experience in statistical tools to model longitudinal data (e.g., time series analysis, growth curve analysis, state-trait models, continuous time modeling)
  • Experience with using innovative assessment methods (e.g., ESM, SCED, psychophysiology, implicit measures, questionnaire development, narrative coding)
  • Knowledge and interest in experimental research designs is an advantage

Teaching skills

  • Teaching certification (equivalent to Dutch BKO) or willingness to obtain one
  • Excellent English language skills (level C2)
  • Record of good student evaluations (if available) 

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 18 months with the prospect of permanent employment.

Depending on the candidate’s experience, the starting gross salary will vary between € 3.974,- and € 5.439,- per month (full time) based on scale 11 of the cao.

Department of Developmental Psychology
The Department of Developmental Psychology at Tilburg University is an internationally diverse group of researchers who collaborate within the framework of the research program "Development of Individual Differences: Bio-Psycho-Social Perspectives". The department offers a stimulating and supporting work atmosphere in which scientists are encouraged to move beyond existing paradigms. 
The research in our department focuses on psychosocial and cognitive changes during the entire lifespan (from childhood to old age) as well as their interaction with the environment. Besides healthy development, research is also being conducted on developmental disorders and delinquent behavior. Hence, the investigation of individual differences in development are central. On the faculty level, our research is integrated in a faculty-wide program focusing on Health, Well-Being, and Adaptiveness. 
The department is contributing to education programs in the Dutch and English Bachelor Psychology (Developmental and Lifespan Psychology; Forensic Psychology) and Master levels (Clinical Child and Youth Psychology; Clinical Forensic Psychology, Clinical Neuropsychology, Positive Psychology; and Research Master Individual Differences and Assessment).
