Energy and climate form a key theme in the research and teaching at the UG. The Wubbo Ockels School for Energy and Climate brings together academics, lecturers, and students from various UG faculties to work together on this theme.

The Wubbo Ockels School is a way for the UG to boost its contribution towards the energy transition. The Wubbo Ockels School facilitates and supports the development of interdisciplinary research and teaching within the broad spectrum of energy and climate. Teaching, research, impact, and public involvement thrive in an environment that encourages students, researchers, external parties, and interested parties to meet up and talk. So, expanding a community is part of the programme of activities of the School.

The tasks include:

• developing policy, including for research, teaching, outreach, and PR
• co-initiating and supporting the start of new research and teaching themes and projects
• co-organizing the Wubbo Ockels School gatherings and workshops
• initiating and maintaining contacts within the Wubbo Ockels School network and with other relevant parties within and outside The Netherlands
• writing fact sheets about the Wubbo Ockels School and substantive information for the WOS website
• coordinating visitations, evaluations, and reviews
• supporting the drafting of project reports and reports for funders
• identifying funding opportunities
• supporting programme proposals
• maintaining contacts for collaboration, including within the Wubbo Ockels School themes (until a secretary is appointed)
• establishing and maintaining the Wubbo Ockels School website (until a communications specialist is appointed)
• taking care of internal and external communication and Public Relations on behalf of the WOS (until a communications specialist is appointed).

Requirements

• a university diploma from The Netherlands or abroad, preferably for a degree programme subject relevant to the tasks described above
• experience in project management, acquisition, and communications
• a demonstrable affinity with, and an understanding of, the research into energy and climate in all faculties
• an affinity with multidisciplinary research/teaching
• good organizational and communication skills
• an analytical ability; able to assess funding opportunities independently, support the ensuing project proposals, and provide researchers with support for these project proposals and grant applications
• an ability to represent the interests of the Wubbo Ockels School within and outside the UG, including in municipalities, national government, EU, industry, and funding organizations
• flexibility, an ability to switch smoothly between different needs
• independence and the will to work in a small team.

• an ability to work independently and accurately
• (near-)native proficiency in English; speaking Dutch is valued.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 12 months.

We offer you in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities:

• a starting salary, based on qualifications and experience, of between € 3,821 and € 5,230 (salary scale 11) gross per month, based on a full-time appointment The appointment is based on the UFO job profile of Policy Officer 3
• an 8% holiday allowance and an 8.3% end-of-year bonus over the annual gross income
• the option to choose a work week of 36, 38, or 40 hours (based on full-time employment) a minimum of 29 days of holiday leave, and in the case of full-time employment, 12 extra days of holiday leave
• good opportunities for training and development
• a starting contract for the period of one year, in order to assess whether you meet the requirements of the position good performance will result in an employment contract for an indefinite period of time.
