QuTech is a mission-driven research institute run jointly by Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) and the Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research (TNO). Our divisions and support teams include 220 FTE and over 300 dedicated people. Today, we are looking for an experienced Safety Officer to join our team!

Your responsibilities as a Safety Officer

As a Safety Officer at QuTech,  you will be consulting with scientific staff and technicians, as well as conducting risk inventories. You will advise groups and services based on your own expertise or in close consultation with the university’s Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) advisor.

You will translate legal requirements in the field of research into practical implementable solutions, you will supervise safety and test against the legal requirements QuTech has to comply within this field. You also analyse incidents and accidents and make proposals how to prevent these in the future.

  • You provide safety training and write instructions for this purpose.
  • You assess and advise on construction and renovation work in laboratories, and participate in the project team for the new QuTech building .
  • You act as QuTech’s laser safety officer (optional)
  • You are responsible for the annual safety audit, and the follow up.
  • You advise with regard to Fire and Security exercises in the building.
  • You participate in the safety committee of QuTech

Requirements

You have a MBO+/HBO work and thinking level and at least 5 years of experience in a research environment. You have a degree in Safety Engineering (middelbaar of hogere veiligheidskunde), or you have a relevant technical/engineering background with an interest in safety and are willing to follow training on the job 

You are/have:

  • Good understanding of laser worker perspective and its safety and requirements
  • Able to convincingly present safety aspects at various levels in the organization.
  • Excellent communication skills and able to connect within different people and teams at QuTech
  • Analytical, practically oriented and proactive
  • Eager to learn and have a demonstrable interest in safety.
  • You are able to operate independently
  • You speak and write Dutch and are also comfortable in communicating in English

Conditions of employment

The safety officer role is for 24h per week. You will be offered a one year position with the option to become permanent. The UFO profile is safety officer with a full-time salary based on VSNU-CAO Scale 9 to 10 (salary min 3098 to 4670 gross per month on a fulltime basis), depending on experience and training.

On top of that, TU Delft/QuTech offers a great customizable compensation package with an generous holidays (41 days off if you work full time), attractive pension scheme, holiday allowance in May and a 13th month pay (paid as a pro-rata bonus in December). We also offer a discount for health insurance, sport memberships, and a monthly work costs contribution. Flexible work schedules can be arranged. An International Children’s Centre offers our employees childcare and an international primary school. Salary and benefits are in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (VSNU-CAO). Dutch citizenship or a European working permit is required to apply.
