Job description

As part of our growth ambitions, we seek a new colleague who is passionate about high-quality research and education that connects values, ethics and organizational theory. If you have experience or interest in topics such as sustainability, organizational transformation, or business ethics, then that is a plus. We are interested in both qualitative and quantitative research methods, and conceptual and normative approaches. Or do you have an interdisciplinary background, combining humanities and social sciences (e.g. philosophy, law, theology, sociology, business, economics, politics)? Then we would also like to hear from you.
You play a key role in strengthening our Organizational Theory section and expanding our research and teaching programs. You have built a promising research portfolio or pipeline, so you can publish at the highest level. You are eager to create a motivating learning environment in the Business Administration Bachelor and Master programmes. You also participate in executive education, specifically in MBA programmes and inhouse company education. The position is embedded in a supportive international work environment, in the Management and Organisation Department of the School of Business and Economics. We are strongly committed to research quality and productivity, teaching innovation and teamwork.

Your duties
  • you initiate, perform and support high-quality research in the area of value-based organizing. Your research results in top tier publications and grant acquisitions
  • you design and teach courses at the bachelor, master, and postgraduate level. You also supervise bachelor and master theses
  • you contribute to the management of the section/department/school committees
  • you engage with partners outside academia. For example, you share research results with a broader audience to make a contribution to a better world

Requirements

  • you hold a PhD in Ethics, Organization Studies, Management, or a related relevant field in the social sciences or humanities
  • you do research that connects values, ethics and management and organization theory
  • you have a strong track record of, or pipeline with, research publications in top journals
  • you are fluent in English. Dutch language skills, for teaching in Dutch undergraduate programs, are an asset
  • you are committed to work on obtaining research grants
  • you have a university teaching qualification (BKO), or you are committed to obtaining one

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 1 year.

A challenging position in a socially involved organization. On full-time basis the remuneration amounts to a minimum gross monthly salary of €3,974 (scale 11)
and a maximum €5,439 (scale 11), depending on your education and experience. The job profile: is based on the university job ranking system and is vacant for at least 0.8 FTE.

The initial employment contract will affect a period of 1 year.

The Department of Management & Organization
The Department of Management and Organization comprises a large, diverse group of micro and macro scholars who seek to combine research excellence with passion in teaching in a collaborative fashion. The department has a strong research tradition, manifested in top tier publication records (Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Organization Science, Journal of Management Studies etc.) as well as in success in attracting external funding for research. The Department has a collaborative ethos with members actively working together on research and teaching projects. Our Department is highly diverse in terms of cultural backgrounds and we enjoy working in an international environment. We offer an active PhD program, Master programs in Entrepreneurship, Management Consulting, Human Resource Management, International Business, Leadership Change Management and Strategy & Organization and a broad range of courses in several Bachelor programs. The Assistant Professor will enhance and contribute to the Department's teaching, research, and outreach activities. The Assistant Professor will be part of a team that focuses on organizational theory that addresses topics like organizing with purpose (e.g., focusing on values), idealtypes of organizational transformation (e.g., new organizational forms), conditions for organizational transformation, and transformers of organizations like consultants. While having a strong tradition in qualitative research, the group is interdisciplinary and appreciates multimodality in research designs.
