The Centre for International Conflict Analysis and Management (CICAM) at the Political Science Chair group of the Nijmegen School of Management (Radboud University) is looking for a new Assistant Professor of Conflict Studies to help further expand our research and education profile. You will contribute to the continuous high quality of education, notably teaching (elective) Bachelor's degree courses and supervising both Political Science and Human Geography students writing their Master's degree theses. You will conduct high-quality research that should lead to publications in high-ranking international journals. Experience with disseminating research results through contacts with practitioners, policy makers and/or the media will be a plus. Together with your colleagues, you will contribute to the further development of the CICAM-Political Science research agenda through applications for external research funding and by developing your own research projects.

Existing expertise within CICAM-Political Science includes conflict analysis, and research on state and non-state governance and external intervention in conflict-affected settings, with a focus on Sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East and South Asia. CICAM research is characterised by in-depth, qualitative fieldwork, critical reflection on dominant frameworks, discourses and practices of conflict analysis and intervention, and a keen interest in the interactions between 'local' and 'global' actors.

Ideally, your research profile will reinforce and complement our thematic and geographical expertise. Geographically, your area of expertise should ideally include (Eastern) Europe and the former USSR, Latin America, or South-East Asia. And thematically, we are particularly interested if you have expertise in the following themes: social movements and civil society and their roles in peace and conflict; the nexus of humanitarian aid, development and peacebuilding; or the interface of climate change (adaptation), natural resources and conflict. Experience in teaching on peace negotiations and mediation (including simulations) would be an advantage.

• You hold a PhD degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. Political Science, Development Studies, (Political) Anthropology, Human Geography), and a demonstrated affinity with Political Science.
• You fit the CICAM-Political Science research profile.
• You are able to contribute to academic debates on peace and conflict, demonstrated by publications in international journals.
• You are an enthusiastic teacher, with ample teaching experience and proven effective teaching skills. A Dutch university teaching qualification (BKO) or equivalent would be an advantage.
• Experience with teaching courses in conflict and peace studies and/or qualitative and quantitative methods is desirable; an ability to supervise MA students would be an advantage.
• You have international experience and a network of international contacts.
• You have excellent English language skills and are willing to learn Dutch (if applicable).

Fixed-term contract: One year, with possibility of extension into a permanent position.

• It concerns an employment for 0.8 FTE.
• The gross monthly salary amounts to a minimum of €3,974 and a maximum of €5,439 based on a 38-hour working week, depending on previous education and number of years of relevant work experience (salary scale 11).
• You will receive 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% end-of-year bonus.
• It concerns a temporary employment for one year, with the possibility of extension into a permanent position.

The Nijmegen School of Management (NSM) is an academic centre of research and higher education, focusing on institutional and managerial issues within complex organisations. There are seven disciplines within NSM: Business Administration; Public Administration; Political Science; Economics and Business Economics; Social and Political Sciences of the Environment; Human Geography; and Spatial Planning. 
NSM strives for a multidisciplinary approach. Its educational programme is characterised by small-scale teaching, providing a stimulating learning environment with an emphasis on the development of academic skills. The Political Science Chair group is built around two Chairs: Empirical Political Science and International Relations, the latter including Peace and Conflict Studies. The chair group offers a Bachelor's degree programme in Political Science and six Master's degree tracks, each leading to a Master's degree in Political Science. The educational programme is characterised by small-scale teaching and provides a stimulating learning environment with an emphasis on the development of academic skills.

The Centre for International Conflict Analysis and Management (CICAM) is embedded in the chair group of Peace and Conflict Studies at the Department of Political Science. The position of Associate Professor of Conflict Studies will be based at CICAM. CICAM is a multidisciplinary institute, conducting academic research and offering education in the field of conflict, peace and intervention in conflict-affected settings, aimed at students across Radboud University. CICAM actively engages in societal services regarding these themes (creating awareness, informing, advising).

The research activities of the Nijmegen School of Management (NSM) fall under the responsibility of the interdisciplinary Institute for Management Research (IMR). Under the motto 'Responsible governance for sustainable societies', IMR focuses on academic research into the development, design and effectiveness of the public and private structures that regulate, govern or manage human interactions. The academic debate is organised in the IMR Academy; the PhD programme is organised in the IMR Doctoral School. In addition to the interdisciplinary research programme on Responsible Organisation, there are six multidisciplinary research groups at IMR, which are linked to strategic and scientifically and societally relevant issues. IMR also hosts the Individual Decision lab and the Group Decision lab, which are especially suited for studying collaboration in complex contexts and collective decision-making.
