Sanquin Research is recruiting new researchers

Job description

Sanquin Research is recruiting new researchers
Post-doc / Principal Investigator TRACK & TRACE: system biology of platelet transfusion

The mission of the Medical Priority Bleeding & Hemostasis of Sanquin Research is to improve diagnosis and treatment of patients suffering from acquired and genetic bleeding disorders. We are currently looking for 2 talented post-docs and/or a Principal Investigator to extend our research program on primary hemostasis and platelet transfusions. We especially encourage applications of talented researchers with the skills and ambition to successfully integrate clinical and large omics based profiling data-sets in the area of transfusion medicine.

TRACK & TRACE: system biology of platelet transfusion
Platelet concentrates are frequently used to prevent and treat bleeding complications in supportive care of hemato-oncology patients, as well as in trauma and cardiopulmonary surgery. In the current program, we will integrate our unique epidemiological expertise and recently developed proteomic profiling technology to improve current approaches for platelet transfusion with the overall aim to define and limit unwanted side-effects of platelet transfusions as for instance observed in the PlaNeT2 trial. We will explore novel determinants that promote bleeding in hemato-oncologic patients receiving platelet transfusions. Using integrated epidemiological and proteomic profiling approaches we expect to be able to dissect novel pathways associated with increased risk of bleeding in patients receiving platelet concentrates. Overall the current project will drive patient-tailored approaches for identification of critical clinical and hemostatic determinants that are linked to an increased risk for bleeding in recipients of platelet concentrates. The findings reported in this study will promote the development of personalized treatment strategies for patients receiving platelet-concentrates and also provide a rationale for the development of next generation platelet concentrates which present with less bleeding complications when compared to currently available products.

Medical Priority Bleeding and Hemostasis
The medical priority Bleeding and Hemostasis is an international frontrunner in applying state-of-the-art mass spectrometry-based proteomics in the area of transfusion medicine. We are a vibrant, international group of 35-40 colleagues (consisting of group leaders, postdocs, PhD students and technicians) that study the various aspects of hemostatic networks. Our department has academic affiliations with high-ranking universities in the Netherlands, such as Utrecht University and the University of Amsterdam. The departments research program benefits from excellent research facilities, which include the latest technology for biomolecular mass spectrometry, imaging and cell sorting.
