Job description

Conducting research experiments and play a central role in managing the laboratory. The successful candidate will crucially contribute to the research of the Translational genomics of neurodevelopmental disorders group. You will genetically manipulate genes in Drosophila and characterize the resulting disease models in disease-relevant assays, such as high-throughput learning and sleep paradigms. Further molecular characterization (e.g. by PCR and qPCR) and drug rescue experiments will be routine tasks. General tasks include animal maintenance, logistic organization of lab and lab supplies, and coordination of other support staff.

The position is part of an NWO-ZonMW Vici grant to Prof. A. Schenck (Towards treatment of Intellectual Disability and Autism spectrum disorders in Drosophila).

Requirements

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and skilled (junior) research technician. You are highly motivated to contribute to medical research, wish to combine this with a central role in the lab and have excellent interpersonal and communication skills. It is important that you have a fundamental background in genetics, molecular and cell biology and some experience to work with model organisms. In addition, you have the ability to organize and manage your own workload, get things done, and demonstrate flexibility in terms of work methods/requirements. You have the ability to work under minimal supervision but function as part of a team.

Furthermore you have:
  • A recent HBO/HLO degree in a domain of Molecular Life Sciences.
  • Excellent experimental and organizational skills.
  • Highest level of reliability and accuracy.
  • Positive service attitude.
  • Affinity for fundamental & translational research related to human brain disorders.

Fixed-term contract: 2 years.
