Job description

In this position as Senior Business Developer at The Gate you are an important sparring partner of the Managing Director of the Gate. In line with the goals and ambitions of the Gate you are co-responsible for the valorization and business development processes of TU/e and other connected stakeholders in the Brainport Ecosystem.
TU/e is transitioning to become a more entrepreneurial university and wants to create a stimulating environment for its academics and students to learn entrepreneurial skills and to successfully found new startups to bring their innovations to market and thus create more impact from the research and education at TU/e. 
To enable this transition TU/e is currently reviewing and modernizing its internal valorization policy and business development processes by creating internal support and embedding the new policy in the existing organization.  

As a senior Business Developer you actively manage opportunities and risk, allowing you to effectively enable technology transfer from experimental and prototype stages into marketable solutions. You build and manage a project portfolio with new, promising projects by scouting, seeking and screening opportunities. Being in close contact with your target group, the researchers and scientists at TU/e is essential is this job. To optimize this process, they should be stimulated to be alert to the possibilities of valorization of their work. 

As a senior Business Developer, you guide the selected projects through a process that must ultimately lead to valorization of the new developed technology.  Searching for partners, financing possibilities, subsidies and possible entrepreneurs who will apply the technology, for example in the form of a start-up or transfer of the innovative technology to an already existing company, are also an important part of the job. 

In this job you collaborate and connect with various people, parties, stakeholders and other members of the Brainport ecosystem, as well as within TU/e as outside the university. You are a full interlocutor for the scientific staff and you support and challenge the researchers to develop solutions that have societal impact.
Your activities are mainly focused on the themes Pharma and Medtech but you are also open to opportunities in other technical domains. 

In general, you stimulate entrepreneurship within the TU/e, in order to realize a transition to an entrepreneurial TU/e.

Requirements

We are looking for a senior and seasoned candidate who has extensive knowledge of and ample experience in working in a university environment and thus understands the academic landscape in the Netherlands. Above all you are familiar with the world of technological innovation and the process of knowledge valorization.  Besides that you are a full interlocutor at all levels within TU/e as well as outside the university in the Brainport region. 
  • a completed  WO degree.
  • 15+ years of relevant experience at a Dutch university or a comparable knowledge institution.
  • Experience in the world of technology transfer, knowledge valorization, designing start-ups and creating impact from research, preferably in a medtech, chemical or pharma environment.
  • You have a relevant network (regional and  nation-wide) or capable to quickly build such a network.
  • You have excellent proficiency in the Dutch and English language, orally as well as in writing.

Conditions of employment

  • We offer an initial one-year contract (1.0 fte). After a mutual positive evaluation this appointment will be extended or converted into a permanent contract.
  • Full-time gross salary  minimum € 5.784,- and maximum € 7.362,- gross per month, depending on background and experience (scale 14 CAO-VSNU).
  • Year-end bonus is 8.3% of the annual salary and 8% vacation allowance.
  • Excellent secondary employment conditions (including childcare, a minimum of 41 leave days at a 40-hour work week and excellent sports facilities).
