Job description

The position is within the Mathematics of Computational Science group that mainly focuses on numerical methods for (partial) differential equations and inverse problems; see [https://www.utwente.nl/en/eemcs/sacs/](https://www.utwente.nl/en/eemcs/sacs/).

The challenge
We expect you to actively develop your mathematical profile and seek connections between fundamental mathematics and societally impactful applied research in collaboration with, for example, the MESA+ Institute for Nanotechnology, the TechMed Centre for Biomedical Technology and Technical Medicine, and the ITC faculty for Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation.

You will be involved in the teaching program of the Department of Applied Mathematics at the Bachelor and Master level, and will transfer your specific expertise to the master program. You will acquire the University Teaching Qualification during the first three years after starting the position.

Requirements

  • You have acquired a PhD degree in mathematics, with a topic in numerical analysis, scientific computing, or a closely related field.
  • You are passionate about innovative research in numerical mathematics, illustrated by publications in highly ranked international mathematics journals.
  • You are ready to take up the challenge to acquire research grants, either via personal schemes, such as within the NWO Innovational Research Incentives Scheme (VENI/VIDI/VICI) and the European Research Council or in collaboration with our Applied Mathematics groups and related research networks.
  • You have excellent communication skills, allowing for efficient interaction with colleagues from other disciplines.

Conditions of employment

  • We offer a permanent position with an initial contract for one year. Near the end you will be subject to a job performance evaluation. If the your performance is evaluated positively and the circumstances of the organization remain the same, the contract will be converted into a permanent contract.
  • Part-time (e.g. 32 hours) is negotiable.
  • The position is at Assistant- or Associate Professor level, with a monthly salary on a full-time basis ranging from € 3.974,-- (scale 11) to € 7.362,-- (scale 14) gross per month - depending on qualifications. Criteria for evaluation comprise a strong track record of publications, evaluation of teaching capacities and a demonstrated ability to acquire funding and to achieve an international network and reputation.
  • Our terms of employment are in accordance with the Dutch Collective Labor Agreement for Universities (CAO) and include a holiday allowance of 8% of the gross annual salary and a year-end bonus of 8.3%.
