Working towards resilient societies, transparent science and alignment with the job market: these are three of the themes that Social and Behavioural Sciences faculties at Dutch universities are focusing on. We are starting to implement the joint sector plan ‘From insight to impact’, for developing solutions to urgent social issues and strengthening the impact of science.

Therefore, we are looking for seven highly motivated and enthusiastic Postdoctoral fellows with a PhD degree in the field of social sciences. With other colleagues, your research will contribute to one of the following topics:

The available positions are for a period of two years each. The topics connect with the research programmes within our faculty's research institutes. We have in total seven positions available.
You will set up research collaborations with colleagues both within the UG and from other Dutch Social and Behavioural faculties, in order to develop a research agenda, and draw up a substantial grant proposal within the relevant theme. There is a possibility to teach, for all positions the appointment is divided into 90% research and 10% teaching.

Requirements

We are looking for candidates who meet the following requirements:

• a PhD degree in one of the social science areas, or if your PhD thesis has been accepted by the review committee
• relevant publication record and excellent research skills
• a strong cooperative attitude and a clear interest in collaborative interdisciplinary research
• the ability to communicate verbally and in writing in English and preferably Dutch (or willingness to learn Dutch)
• ability to work independently and manage joint research activities
• a team player with good communication skills.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 24 months.

In accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU) we are offering you:

• a salary, depending on qualifications and work experience, of a minimum of € 3,557 (salary scale 10, number 4) to a maximum of € 4,670 (maximum scale 10) gross per month for a full-time position
• an excluding 8% holiday allowance and 8,3% end-of-year bonus and participation in a pension scheme for employees
• favorable tax agreements may apply to non-Dutch applicants
• 232 holiday hours per calendar year for full-time employment
• a research position of 0.8-1.0 FTE for a period of two years.

This heading includes teaching and research on changes in society and their effects on people—on migration, the environment and climate, health, upbringing, education, the protection of vulnerable minorities and the implementation of effective and sustainable cooperation within and between groups. It also includes the domain of care for extremely vulnerable children and families, and—more generally—diagnostics (and psycho-diagnostics), healthy ageing and the treatment of people with physical disabilities or mental health problems.
