We are currently looking for a Staff member for Library Services to join the Front Office department (at both the Zernike and City Centre locations).

What you will be doing
As a Staff member for Library Services you will contribute to an optimal study experience and excellent library services for our customers at both locations. Your focus on the customer and your sense of hospitality will make our visitors feel at home. As a member of the all-round team, you will coordinate your work with colleagues. Together, you form the first point of contact and the face of our services. You will provide information about topics including our services, products, physical and digital collections, information systems, and the lending procedures. You must have the eye for detail needed to facilitate perfect communication.

Your tasks will include:

- tasks related to primary services: Working at the Service Desk to arrange new subscriptions, to collect and issue books for interlibrary loans, and to answer customers’ questions
- tasks related to secondary services: Handling interlibrary loans, processing theses, reader control, scanning and photocopying, and various administrative tasks
- other tasks: Managing the open collections, retrieving and returning requests from these open collections, enforcing the house rules. You will give guided tours if required.

Requirements

You are customer- and service-oriented and able to withstand stress, a team player, eager to learn, accurate, result-oriented, proactive, attentive, adequate, and able to give and receive feedback.

You have:
- demonstrable knowledge of, and affinity with, the internet and e-services, digital applications, and information skills
- an understanding of and experience with library systems
- good communication skills
- a good command of both English and Dutch
- a natural ability to work flexibly; the ability to work alternating shifts within a timetable (8 a.m. to 8 p.m.) and at different locations if necessary
- an ability to work in a team with shared responsibility
- basic knowledge of ICT in order to assist customers with simple ICT questions.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 12 months.

We offer you in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities:

- a maximum salary depending on qualifications and experience of € 3,026 (scale 6) per month for a full-time position. The position is classified in accordance with the University Job Classification (UFO) system; the UFO profile is Library Services Assistant 2
- a holiday allowance of 8% gross annual income
- an 8.3% end-of-the-year allowance.

The appointment is for 0.6 FTE for the period of one year. After the agreed end date, and depending on the outcome of the Results & Development interview and other internal and external circumstances, this employment contract may be converted into a permanent one.

You will be required to wear a uniform. Date of entry employment: ASAP

In addition to the location in the city centre, the UB also has a location in the Duisenberg building at the Zernike Campus. The Zernike Campus is a vibrant area north of the city centre of Groningen where teaching, knowledge, and entrepreneurship come together and work together. In recent years, the Zernike Campus has undergone a major transformation in terms of atmosphere and appearance. The UB Zernike has 152 study stations and 60 computer workstations. The Library also has a number of study cabinets available for use by both individuals and small groups.

The Front Office department and Printed Collections Management employs 31 members of staff and 35 student assistants, working in three teams at two locations. The department is run by a head of department and three team leaders.

The Front Office teams are responsible for providing primary services (at the Service Desk) and secondary services (behind the scenes). During UG exam periods, the UB receives more than 10,000 visitors a day.
