We are looking for a jr project manager with interest in (inter)national complex research and innovation grants in an academic setting. You will become part of a international team where you will grow your skills and knowledge of project management.

Job description

It is important to emphasize that we're hiring a junior project manager. In essence, this will mean that we will team you up with our experienced project managers to learn on the job and from the best. You will gain knowledge and work on your skillset to become a trusted partner for our researchers. From the start, you will get a project of your own to run and besides assist on the more complex projects we have. This will enable a fast and fun learning curve where you can discover and experiment with your talents. You will receive the needed guidance and peer support to obtain the desired standards.

Your main duties will become: day-to-day project management of assigned projects by ensuring they are executed at the highest possible quality level. You deliver on the non-scientific aspects. You are responsible for supporting, monitoring and guarding a smooth, effective and timely execution of the project plan, its progress and its budget. You will ensure compliance with the funding agency requirements, agreed contracts and policies. You will work as all-round project manager, which means you will also guide grant preparations and give implementation advice on proposals.  You work in close collaboration with the scientific project leaders and other team members, as well as other support staff. You ensure a timely reporting on the scientific progress. You will perform financial management and reporting, in close cooperation with the UMC Utrecht project controller. You manage all non-scientific, administrative, financial and contractual obligations and amendments of the projects, towards the funding organization, the consortium partners and UMC Utrecht. You will prepare, organize and follow-up project meetings and assist in (the organization of) dissemination activities like workshops, conferences and publications. You will perform both high and low level tasks in the relevant projects. You will maintain contacts with external stakeholders and act as first contact for the relevant projects. The project manager will become a member of the Funding & Support team within the Research Office. You report directly to the Funding & Support team leader and you will work closely with your colleagues in the team.

Additionally, you work closely with the scientific project leader(s) and the support staff at the division level. As our team is growing fast, we expect the selected candidate to be an involved team player, willing to invest in our professional development and bring energy to the work place. Furthermore, you will be given opportunity to work on side projects internally and/or extrnally within our networks.

Requirements

You have an interest in (inter)national funded research projects and you are acquainted with the funding landscape. You have relevant experience in project management and/or complex (international) research & innovation projects, which are externally funded. In addition, you have relevant knowledge and/or experience in the field of financial and legal aspects of research projects. These aspects are all considered a pre.

In your work you show initiative, you are service-oriented, a good communicator and able to establish and maintain interpersonal relations. You are willing to keep up to date to the latest funding information and changes. Your writing skills in both English and Dutch are excellent. 

We are looking for a colleague with an good ability to focus on priorities, who is pro-active, flexible and, enjoys working in an international team, has excellent communication and interpersonal skills. You are eager to learn and dare to ask questions, no matter the size of the issue.

You are a reliable person who can work in a multicultural environment and would like to learn how to establish and maintain harmonious cooperation in complex internal and external settings with diverse stakeholders. You are able to shift between tasks and keep oversight on priorities. You know when to align with other colleagues. 

Our new colleague has good eye for detail, works structured and well organized.

Familiarity and experience with laws and regulations concerning clinical trials is recommended. You are good with numbers. You are capable of operating both independently with own authority, based on knowledge, expertise and experience, as well as within a team where you are willing to invest in a growing team. You are willing to travel abroad and to work with flexible work hours. In addition, you demonstrate a service-oriented attitude towards the researchers.

Conditions of employment

The maximum salary for this position (75-100%) is € 4.370,00 gross per month based on full-time employment (work week 36 hours). Depending on your experience, we will position this job in salary scale 8 or 9. This will be a temporary appointment for 1 year with the intention of extension. The temporary financing clause will be applied.

The Research Office is part of the Strategy & Policy Department of the University Medical Center Utrecht. The Research Office focuses on strategic advice on development, implementation and evaluation of science policy within UMC Utrecht. We address the local, regional, national and international positioning of the UMC Utrecht research. One of our tasks is to expand the network, as well as increase the knowledge base by training of researchers and support staff. By this, we contribute to UMC Utrecht's mission of stimulating high-quality research, supporting excellent researchers and increasing the recruitment capacity of UMC Utrecht. Therefore, advising and supporting researchers in finding valorization opportunities and supporting them with research and innovation grants belong to the tasks of the Research Office. 

The Funding & Support Team aims to support our researchers and innovators from A-Z with obtaining research/innovation grants. Through providing support from idea to post-project audit we team up with our researchers and add our expertise. Our team also focuses on smart tooling and an overall improvement of research and innovation support. We believe in setting the example and strive for a research(er)-friendly ecosystem.

Within our networks (internal/campus/national/international) we share our knowledge and experience actively and would like you to participate in this matter as well.
