You will be part of the department's team of Education and Student Affairs, which provides a wide range of services to support education, such as academic advisement to students, teacher support to educational innovation, educational quality assurance, student and study administration, support to the exam committees and educational policy.  

As a policy officer education you will make a crucial contribution to the management and quality of education at the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science. You will be involved in the process of translating TU/e's and department's educational vision into educational policy and supporting the program director and academic staff in doing so. In line with that, your focus will be on educational processes related to curriculum development and innovation. 

As a policy advisor education you are the 'spider in the web'. You will carry out all activities in close cooperation with the program director and program coordinators, the manager ESA, the central policy advisor chain, the teacher supporter, quality assurance officer and the examination and program committees of the department. Communicating internally and externally is an important part of your job, as well as creating and promoting internal and external support. You are capable of taking on different roles, such as advisor, expert, project leader, or analyst. You are able to translate complex issues into concrete, executable or pragmatic solutions. 

Within our department you will be part of the Improvements & Innovation team and the department's policy team, which includes a research policy officer and the secretary to the Department Board.

You will report to the Manager ESA M&CS.   

Within this department, your tasks will encompass: 
  • Advise the Education Management Team and, subsequently, the Department Board on educational issues with focus on mid- and long-term perspectives;  
  • Translate strategical and tactical university policy and regulation into departmental education policy and regulation, and policies on topics such as quality assurance, assessment, and internationalization;  
  • Coordinate the process of setting up yearly reports and regulations, such as the Program and Examination Regulations of each educational program and the annual reports on education; 
  • Support and advise the program directors on their educational programs; help them to create a joint, departmental vision; 
  • Play a proactive and policy supportive role in the strategy development and annual cycle of educational strategy;
  • Prepare external audits, i.e. prepare documentation for the regular educational accreditation committees;  
  • A leading managerial role in educational innovation projects at the department, for example in the current redesign of the Bachelor's program, being responsible for the process and the accomplishment of the project goals;
  • Maintain relevant university contacts and networks on an (inter)national level (UNL). 
  • Play a role in TU/e wide education policy projects and be an active member of the policy chain.

Requirements

  • You are in possession of at least a MSc degree in a field relevant to this position (preferably in educational science) and want to develop further in this field; 
  • You have at least 5 years relevant work experience, preferably in an institute for higher education; 
  • You have an affinity with the fields of the department: Mathematics, Computer Science, and Data Science & AI;
  • You have knowledge and experience in policy making;
  • You have highly developed analytical and conceptual skills; this allows you to determine relevant stakeholders in decision making processes;
  • You are a team player; 
  • You can organize and create a broad basis for support in a convincing manner; 
  • You are experienced in translating various mindsets and interests towards a consistent and uniform policy; 
  • You have good organizing and planning skills; 
  • You are proficient in English (C1 level) and Dutch (C1) in terms of oral communication and have a concise and accessible writing style in both languages; 
  • You are service and result oriented.  

Conditions of employment

We offer:  
  • A (0,8-1,0 fte) position with a gross monthly salary in the range of € 2,960.- to € 6,181.- (Policy Advisor, scale 10/11/12) based on your education and experience;
  • A temporary contract for one year. It is our intention to convert this temporary contract to permanent employment after one year, conditional on good performance and unchanged economic circumstances;
