Job description

Within the recently funded NWO Vidi grant "Unravelling watershed fluxes to detect emerging changes of the water balance" we are looking for 2 PhD Candidates see also the [other vacancy](https://utwentecareers.nl/nl/vacatures/748/phd-candidate-development-of-an-inversion-scheme-to-close-the-water-cycle-balance-at-the-watershed-level-position-2/)

This is position 1.

Your challenge includes the estimation of river discharge from local gauges and 'virtual' gauges (i.e. radar altimetry) at the mouths of the watersheds of the two focus regions (Watersheds around the North Sea and the Greater Horn of Africa). Furthermore, you will provide estimates of regional sea level change from re-tracked radar altimetry and vertical land motion from GNSS networks. The output of your research will enhance the understanding of our ability to monitor and close the water cycle in the focus regions. Furthermore, it will also serve as a key input for the inversion framework which will be developed within the other PhD position. For that reason, a close collaboration with the other PhD candidate, which will run in parallel, is foreseen.
