The Department of Engineering Structures (ES) provides education and conducts research in the area of civil infrastructure and buildings. The department’s approach is based on science/fundamentals (mechanics and material science), deepened by engineering (concrete, steel, composite, timber, road and railway structures) and broadened by design (integral design, construction design, zero-material design and design-build). The department provides basic education in the BSc civil engineering programme and three MSc programmes in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering and Applied Earth Sciences.
The Stevin Laboratory (Lab), that is an integral part of the ES department, is world famous in conducting large scale experiments in the fields of structural, railway and pavement engineering. It also executes unique experiments in the fields of renewable energy and recycling. Another major task of the Lab is to support education by means of providing experimental setups to demonstrate the major phenomena in the field of Civil Engineering and enable students to conduct experiments themselves.
This position is established in order to strengthen education by means of
In order to accomplish these tasks and be happy with the job, you are expected to have a solid background in physics and/or engineering and to be fond of making beautifully looking experimental setups, which will encourage students to study engineering and become creative.
