The Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences will use the Sectorplan-funds to make additional investments in the interdisciplinary themes: 'Mental illness', 'The human factor in new technologies', 'Social inequality and diversity' and 'Education, citizenship and democracy in a digital world' and in the discipline of Educational Sciences. Therefore, we are looking for an Assistant Professor.

Do you have expertise in the area of 'The human factor in new technologies', with a specialization in anthropology of data and datafication? Are you a passionate researcher and teacher? Can you inspire students and initiate relevant new research?

The Department of Anthropology is one of the largest departments of anthropology in Europe with an excellent reputation in both research and teaching. This position is embedded in the programme group Health, Care and the Body.

What are you going to do?

In this position you will:
  • build your own line of research within the theme of datafication and technology;
  • help shape the research area of anthropology of data within the Department of Anthropology and the Faculty of Social and Behavioral Sciences;
  • develop and provide education in the Bachelor and Master programs;
  • present and publish your research to an international scientific audience;
  • be active in the acquisition of research grants;
  • supervise PhD students;
  • seek (knowledge) exchange and (research) cooperation with professionals on your research area;
  • make a positive contribution to the organization and cooperation within the program group and the department.

Requirements

You have:
  • a completed PhD in Anthropology or other Social Science;
  • demonstrable experience in research on the anthropology of data and datafication, especially in the field of migration, ecology or other fields related to everyday life;
  • excellent research skills, particularly in ethnographic research, as demonstrated by publications in international journals;
  • experience with international research;
  • some experience in teaching in anthropology or other social sciences;
  • good communication, social and organizational skills
In addition, you are an enthusiastic scholar is who interested in contributing to a collegial and lively academic community, likes to share knowledge, embraces open science, is curious, critical and eager to learn.

Conditions of employment

We offer permanent employment upon a satisfactory evaluation following a temporary employment contract of a maximum of 18 months with a probationary period of two months. For internal candidates an initial temporary employment contract of 12 months applies. The employment contract will be for 30,4 -38 hours per week. The starting date will be no later than 1 November 2022.

The gross monthly salary based on full-time employment (38 hours per week) ranges from a minimum of € 3,974 up to a maximum of € 5,439 (salary scale 11). This is exclusive 8% holiday allowance and 8,3% end-of-year bonus. The starting salary will be based on your qualifications and relevant work experience. The profile "Assistant professor" is applicable in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement of Dutch Universities.
