Are you a social psychologist who is passionate about science and education? Do you publish high-quality research in the premier outlets of the field? Are you a dedicated and effective teacher? Per November 2022, we are seeking an assistant professor of social psychology.

Within the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences, the discipline of Psychology offers a range of Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes, while its research is carried out at the Psychology Research Institute (Psyres). The successful candidate will be part of the Social Psychology program group.

What are you going to do

As assistant professor of social psychology, you will be responsible for conducting high-quality research in social psychology, for teaching, developing, and coordinating bachelor and master level courses and tutorials on social-psychological topics and for supervising student research projects at bachelor and master level.

Requirements

As an assistant professor you must hold a doctoral degree and have a successful program of research, as reflected in several first-authored international publications in top outlets of the field. In terms of content, the preferred candidate strengthens and complements the research activities of the social psychology program group. This means that the you conduct high-quality research on the cognitive, affective, and/or motivational underpinnings of social behavior that fits with and extends one or more ongoing research lines in our group. Besides you will have demonstrable motivation and ability to teach social-psychological topics in the Psychology Bachelor program, the Social Influence master track, the Cultural Psychology master track, and/or the interdisciplinary bachelor program Politics, Psychology, Law and Economics (PPLE).

Your experience and profile:

You have:
  • a PhD in social psychology;
  • a research profile fitting the above described program
  • high-quality publications in international, peer-reviewed academic journals
  • experience in teaching, developing, and improving courses and supervising theses on social-psychological topics at the bachelor and master level (with good evaluations);
  • An University Teaching Qualification (UTQ) or willingness to obtain it;
  • excellent English proficiency;

Conditions of employment

The position concerns (temporary) employment of 38 hours a week, and involves 45% research and 55% teaching. The initial employment is for 18 months (one year if you are already employed at the UvA). Following a positive assessment and barring altered circumstances, this will be followed by a permanent contract.

Depending on your experience, the minimum salary is €3.974 and the maximum salary is €5.439 gross per month based on a 38-hour working week, in keeping with salary scale 11, as per the Collective Labour Agreement of Dutch Universities.

We additionally offer an extensive package of secondary benefits, including 8% holiday allowance and a year-end bonus of 8.3%.
