Job description

To strengthen our team for the Information Technology program, we are looking for a Research and Communication skills lecturer and Study Coach.

The team consists of 25 internationally orientated colleagues who possess various (technical) expertises such as software development, interaction design, network technology, Data Science, AI and also communication and research skills.

With a mix of theoretical and practice-oriented education, we provide our 450 students with a solid foundation of knowledge and skills. Our students acquire positions in the IT sector, ranging from software developer, system analyst, app developer, cloud engineer to cybersecurity specialist.

Approximately 30% of our students have an international background and our common language is English.

You are a Lecturer - You will give inspiring tutorials and lectures in communication and research skills. This enables you to bring in your innovative mindset to improve the students presentation skills, interview techniques, research and written reporting. During these lectures you will make use of varied and activating teaching methods, in which interaction between you and the student is important.
And you will be joining an international community and invite you to participate in strengthening the international community sense.

You are a Study Coach - You will guide the International students of the Information Technology program in making study and personal development choices. You will follow the student's learning process and guide them in their personal and professional development and provide coaching where required. You know how to motivate and coach students and you have an open attitude towards the students. If the circumstances give cause, you refer students, for example to the student counsellor.

Requirements

  • You have proven research skills and are able to lecture students in developing their research skills.
  • You have a proven interest and demonstrable expertise in lecturing communication skills in English with an open mind towards new teaching- and learning methods;
  • You have experience in coaching and supervising students and have preferably completed coaching training yourself.
  • You have intercultural communication skills and conversation techniques and you are genuinely interested in the other person and you know how to convey that.
  • It is an advantage if you have affinity with the IT field and the people who work there.
  • You have a clear aptitude to teamwork and are able to contribute to the team on educational development.
  • You have obtained, or are willing to obtain a didactic qualification.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: with a view to permanent employment.

To lecture students you need the Basic Teaching Competency (BDB) qualification. If you have not obtained yet this qualification, we will provide you with a course at our expense for 6 to 12 months after your first year. We expect you to continue to develop in our learning organization afterwards. You dare to look critically at yourself and change your opinion. You seek the connection with your colleagues and you show who you are. You try out new things in developing your own skills and follow your heart. That makes you a role model for your students and your colleagues.

What do we offer you as a new colleague

  • This contract is initially for 18 months, under normal conditions followed by a permanent contract. (D3 in the CLA). 
  • A salary up to €5.026,85 gross per month, scale 11, for full-time employment. Your grading depends on your relevant (work) experience and education.
  • A working week of 40 hours a week, but know that everything from 32 hours a week is also possible.
  • An easily accessible workplace in Haarlem. All travel expenses incurred by public transport will be reimbursed 100%. You shall receive a business card for public transport. If you opt for your own transport, know that you will be reimbursed to a limited extent.
  • A payment of an 8% holiday allowance in May.
  • A payment of an end-of-year payment of 8.3% in December.
  • A generous leave scheme in which you can make your own choices. For example: with a full-time employment contract and a chosen working week variant of 40 hours per week, you have 428 hours of annual leave. This is 53.5 vacation days. Our leave scheme includes the mandatory days off and national and recognized public holidays.
  • A homework allowance of €3 per day worked from home of at least 4 hours.
  • An attractive pension scheme with ABP (General Pension Fund for Public Employees).
  • You will receive sufficient facilities for professional and personal development from us. We think it is important that you are always willing to learn. Learning = daring is central to us.
  • An insurance policy against partial incapacity for work will be taken out for you, which will be paid in full by us, Inholland University of Applied Sciences.
