Job description

You are going to join the Information Technology program as a learning coach in Software Development, Big Data and AI. The team consists of 25 internationally orientated colleagues who possess various (technical) expertises such as software development, interaction design, network technology, cloud, big data & AI and also communication and research skills. With a mix of theoretical and practice-oriented education, we provide our 450 students with a solid foundation of knowledge and skills. 

Our students acquire all kinds of positions in the IT sector, ranging from software developer, system analyst, app developer, cloud engineer, data engineer to cyber security specialist. Approximately 30% of our students have an international background and our common language is English. With your knowledge, wit and motivational speech you’ll be the lecturer they’ll never forget!

You are a lecturer and learning coach in software development and you will give inspiring lectures in the field of Computer Science. Your lectures are for both Dutch and International students. During your lectures you make use of varied and activating teaching methods, in which interaction between you and the student is important. 

You will pass on your knowledge of agile, design, programming principles and skills to your students. You can be deployed for one or more fields of expertise that are covered within the program like programming in various languages, Big Data, AI, Cloud Computing and Cyber Security. Students apply the knowledge gained from lectures in business assignments. You will guide students with their assignments, internships and graduation. They will work on assignments where you will coach them on the project work, collaboration, information gathering and research. 

As a colleague you are part of the software development lecturer team. Together with your colleagues you are going to develop the curriculum in the highly innovative field of Computer Science. Together with the latest developments from the professional field and educational insights, you determine the curriculum content. Your network and knowledge is of great value here.

  • You are an IT professional with a passion for education or a lecturer with demonstrable experience in Software Development.
  • You have extensive knowledge of multiple programming languages for frontend and backend development.
  • You have knowledge and experience with Machine Learning and Deep Learning concepts and techniques
  • You preferably have a completed master's degree.
  • You have obtained a didactic qualification or are willing to obtain it.
  • You have a clear aptitude to teamwork and are able to contribute to the team on educational development
  • You have experience in applied research or you want to develop your research skills further in this area.
  • You have good oral and written communication skills in English and preferably are able to communicate in Dutch as well.

No teaching qualification? No problem!
To coach students you need the Basic Teaching Competency (BDB) qualification. If you have not obtained yet this qualification, we will provide you with a course at our expense for 6 to 12 months after your first year. We expect you to continue to develop in our learning organization afterwards. You dare to look critically at yourself and change your opinion. You seek the connection with your colleagues and you show who you are. You try out new things in developing your own skills and follow your heart. That makes you a role model for your students and your colleagues.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: under normal conditions followed by a permanent contract.

  • This contract is initially for 18 months, under normal conditions followed by a permanent contract. (D3 in the CLA). 
  • A salary of at least €3.881,09 with a maximum of €5.332,48 gross per month, scale 11, for full-time employment. Your grading depends on your relevant (work) experience and education.
  • A working week of 40 hours, but know that everything from 32 hours per week is possible.
  • An easily accessible workplace in Haarlem. All travel expenses incurred by public transport will be reimbursed 100%. You shall receive a business card for public transport. If you opt for your own transport, know that you will be reimbursed to a limited extent.
  • A payment of an 8% holiday allowance in May.
  • A payment of an end-of-year payment of 8.3% in December.
  • A generous leave scheme in which you can make your own choices. For example: with a full-time employment contract and a chosen working week variant of 40 hours per week, you have 428 hours of annual leave. This is 53.5 vacation days. Our leave scheme includes the mandatory days off and national and recognized public holidays.
  • A homework allowance of €3 per day worked from home of at least 4 hours.
  • An attractive pension scheme with ABP (General Pension Fund for Public Employees).
  • You will receive sufficient facilities for professional and personal development from us. We think it is important that you are always willing to learn. Learning = daring is central to us.
  • An insurance policy against partial incapacity for work will be taken out for you, which will be paid in full by us, Inholland University of Applied Sciences.
