Duration of employment contract: 18 months, with a prospect of indefinite term.

Job description

Tilburg Law School is seeking an enthusiastic colleague for the position Assistant professor in (European) Labour  & Social Security Law in the Department of Private Law, Business Law and Labour Law (PBLL). PBLL is a large and diverse department, home to around 90 members of academic staff engaged in education and research in Private Law in its broadest sense. The successful candidate will develop and grow in teaching as well as in research, both individually and as part of a team of ambitious scholars.

PBLL invites applications for the position of an Assistant Professor who can make a vital contribution to both education and research in the field of Labour & Social Security Law, principally its European dimension.

In this position:

  • You are responsible for teaching, organization and development of courses, principally in the field of European labour law and social security law, which might be supplemented with related course subjects such as labour law from a global, comparative or (trans)national perspective. As such, you will coordinate and teach various courses, conduct exams and supervise master and/or bachelor theses in these domains.
  • You will develop your own research profile, in line with the research program of the Department of Private, Business and Labour Law called ‘Connecting Organizations: Private, Fiscal and Technology-Driven Legal Relations in a Sustainable Society’. This involves, amongst others, the active participation in current transnational debates on enhancing social protection for self-employed and other ‘atypical’ workers and related research projects (such as from Instituut Gak) and in associated academic networks. It also implies that you will submit competitive research proposals for research grants such as the ERC Starting Grant or the NWO Veni scheme.
  • You will participate in management committees or project teams for the Department or Law School.

The ratio between teaching, research and administrative/managerial duties might vary. For the first 5 years research includes participation in a project on social protection for self-employed funded by Instituut Gak.
