Job description

Clinical research within the department of Clinical Pharmacy and Pharmacology focuses on personalized medicine for the treatment of renal and cardiovascular complications of type 2 diabetes. Principal investigators within the department are involved in numerous clinical trials and large cohort studies to develop new methods of tailoring medications using biomarker based approaches and improve clinical trial designs by integrating novel methodological techniques.

Requirements

To support ongoing research and clinical trials the Department of Clinical Pharmacy and Pharmacology is soliciting for a 3-year fulltime Post-doctoral position for a medical doctor. The candidate is expected to:
- Be responsible for initiating and conducting new clinical trials and for operational conduct of clinical trials according to Standard Operating Procedures to assure quality of research;
- Carrie out statistical analyses and be involved in database development, this may include assisting lead biostatisticians for clinical trials performed in cardio-metabolic conditions;
- Supervise and assist in writing study reports and scientific publications;
- Assist and supervise PhD fellows (medical doctors) in conduct, analysis and interpretation of clinical studies;
- Stays current on relevant research via statistical or medical training, self-study, internal training and courses, external conferences and courses, for example.

We are looking for an enthusiastic medical doctor or epidemiologist with a PhD degree or equivalent in medical sciences. Experience in the conduct, analysis and interpretation of clinical trials is required. The candidate has knowledge and experience with statistical software. We expect the candidate demonstrates professional competence and is conscientious and efficient in meeting commitments, observing deadlines and achieving results. Sufficient proficiency in Dutch language is required. The candidate has experience in English writing.

Candidates who have (almost) completed their Master’s degree are invited to respond.

The UMCG has a preventive Hepatitis B policy. The UMCG can provide you with the vaccination, should it be required for your position.

In case of specific professions a ‘Certificate of Good Conduct’ is required.

Conditions of employment

We offer an fulltime Post-doctorial position (36 hours a week) for a period of three years. After a positive evaluation, the contract will be extended for the remaining part of the project. Your salary will be a maximum of € 4.800,- gross per month in the first year of the appointment (scale 10), depending on your qualifications and relevant experience and based on a full-time appointment. In addition, the UMCG will offer you 8% holiday pay, and 8.3% end-of-year bonus. The conditions of employment comply with the Collective Labour Agreement for Medical Centres (CAO-UMC).
