We are seeking to hire a competent and energetic project manager for the MEDAL project (Methodological Excellence in Data-Driven Approaches to Linguistics). This is a new Horizon Europe Twinning consortium project, funded by the European Commission.

Job description

The MEDAL project is a new Horizon Europe Twinning consortium project, funded by the European Commission. The project will be launched in January 2023. You can read more about it here.

You will work in an exciting international collaborative project that spans the UK, the Netherlands and Estonia. You will manage the MPI's contribution to the project, with a focus on leading the project's dissemination and outreach work package. Thus the job would suit a project manager with an interest in, and expertise in, science communication and outreach.

Tasks

Management-focussed tasks:

  • to oversee, under the supervision of the project lead (Caroline Rowland), the MPI's contribution to the MEDAL project, including documentation, contribution to reports and budget management
  • communication with domestic and international partners
  • information dissemination across partners within the consortium

Dissemination/outreach focussed tasks:

  • To coordinate the creation of a Dissemination, Exploitation and Communication Plan for the consortium (DEC plan)
  • To set up and maintain an internet presence for MEDAL activities, consisting minimally of a website and relevant social media accounts
  • To organise and coordinate a locally held researcher training school (in summer 2024) and two workshops on best practice in Open Science.
  • To support the organisation of the final consortium conference at University of Tartu in 2025
  • To facilitate the organisation of popular science and outreach events aimed at school aged children
  • To liaise with the MPI communications department, in particular where local events and initiatives are concerned

Requirements

Essential

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree
  • Experience in project management
  • Experience in science communication and outreach
  • Excellent communication skills in English and Dutch
  • A reliable, conscientiousness person with good attention to detail
  • An open, proactive and cooperative approach
  • A readiness to engage fully with project participants who come from multiple countries and cultures.

Desirable but not essential

  • An interest in language, linguistics, digital humanities and/or research methods
  • Experience with EU funded projects

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 3 years.

  • The position is available from January 2023.
  • This is a part-time position (24 hours per week) with a term of appointment of 3 years
  • The salary is according to the German TVöD (Tarifvertrag für den öffentlichen Dienst) and is classified in salary group E10. Depending on the experience of the applicant, the salary based on a full-time employment (39 hours per week) is between EUR 3,492.26 and EUR 4,092.18 gross per month plus a holiday bonus of 8% of the gross salary. Based on 24 hours per week, this means a gross monthly salary between approximately EUR 2,149 and EUR 2,518.

The Max Planck Institute (MPI) for Psycholinguistics in Nijmegen is a research institute entirely devoted to the study of language. Our goal is to understand how our minds and brains process language, how language interacts with other aspects of mind, and how we can learn languages of quite different types.
