Job description

Are you a current or aspiring professor with a drive to shape critical philosophical reflection for humanities students in languages, communication, cultures and (art) history? Then use your experience to increase the visibility and quality of our teaching and research into the philosophy of the humanities within our faculty, nationally and internationally.

The introductory Philosophy of the Humanities course in the Bachelor's degree programme is compulsory for all students at the Faculty of Arts. You will coordinate these courses faculty-wide and partly teach them yourself. Teaching and research preferably focus on philosophical reflection on the humanities, including cultural philosophy and aesthetics, and pay attention to current themes, such as cultural diversity, interculturality and sustainability. As a professor, you will also participate in the Research Master's programme in Historical, Literary and Cultural Studies of the Faculty of Arts and fulfil an initiating, stimulating and unifying role in the development and implementation of the teaching programme. Within the Faculty of Philosophy, Theology and Religious Studies, you will have a smaller teaching load.

You will stimulate research based on a clear vision and will make research in the philosophy of the humanities more visible within the faculties as well as nationally and internationally. Your duties explicitly include supervising PhD candidates and acquiring indirect government funding and contract funding, as well as actively contributing to the valorisation activities of the faculties.

This position concerns a double appointment: 60% of your mandate will be dedicated to the Faculty of Arts and 40% to the Faculty of Philosophy, Theology and Religious Studies. In principle, your duties will consist of 50% teaching and 50% research. Within the Faculty of Arts, you will be associated with the Department of Modern Languages and Cultures and the Radboud Institute for Culture & History (RICH). At the Faculty of Philosophy, Theology and Religious Studies, you will be associated with the Centre for Contemporary European Philosophy and the Department of Metaphysics and Philosophical Anthropology.
