Job description

The Faculty of Business Management and Social Sciences of Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences invites applications for the tenured W2 position of Professorship for Organisation and Profession of Social Work.

We are looking for an individual who represents the science of social work in terms of its theories, concepts and methods in the context of a profession-specific action theory, organisational design and outcome-oriented research.

Requirements

The successful candidate is expected to have a sound knowledge of social work and comprehensive skills in the practice, professional development, organisational design and research of social work. 

Key areas of the professorship are: 

  • Theories of social work in the contexts of professional development and organisational design and of corresponding concepts, forms of work and methods of social work (e.g. evaluation, concept development, organisational development and quality development). 

  • Research into the organisational methods and practices of social work as well as the conditions and characteristics of its professionalism, e.g. related to questions of evaluation, outcome measurement, quality development and digitalisation. Particular emphasis should be placed on quantitative research methodology. 

The criteria of the Lower Saxony Higher Education Act (NHG) govern the requirements for appointment to a professorship at Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences (https ://www.hs -osnabrueck.de/berufungen-und-recruitment/berufungsverfahren/formale einstellungsvoraussetzungen/). These criteria must be met. For the advertised professorship, these criteria are specified as follows in accordance with Section 25(1) NHG: 

  • The future incumbent is expected to have a university degree in Social Work, Education Science with a focus on Social Education, or comparable disciplines. 
  • The future incumbent is expected to have a particular aptitude for in-depth and independent academic work, demonstrated by an above-average doctorate in the relevant subject. 
  • The candidate’s professional experience (five years of professional practice, of which at least three years must have been outside the university setting) is required to be demonstrably relevant to the content and tasks involved in the context of the professorship. Evidence must also be provided of the candidate’s relevant exceptional achievements in their career. 

The future incumbent will focus on developing our students, transferring knowledge and demonstrating enthusiasm for the distinctive features of the subject (pedagogical-didactic aptitude). Appropriate teaching experience – preferably with students – must therefore be demonstrated. 

Ideally, the incumbent will also have the following skills: 

Proven experience

  • in self-administration tasks or voluntary work 
  • with interdisciplinary/transdisciplinary cooperation 
  • in the administration of external funding or in research 
  • with digitalisation (especially with online teaching formats) 

as well as

  • Gender and diversity competence
  • An international profile / experience of internationality
  • Proven knowledge of the English language 
  • Leadership skills (e.g. a cooperative leadership style) 
  • Communication skills (especially behaviour appropriate to the situation and the target group)
