Job description

Our research institute
The School of MHeNS (https://mhens.mumc.maastrichtuniversity.nl/) investigates the causes, mechanisms and treatments of mental disorders and disease of the nervous and sensory systems. Our neuroimaging research is conducted in close collaboration with the Maastricht Brain Imaging Centre at the Faculty of Psychology and Neuroscience (MBIC) (https://www.maastrichtuniversity.nl/research/m-bic/m-bic-research) and with several international imaging consortia. The position is embedded in two of our thematic priority lines, neuroimaging and neuromodulation, and involves the support of clinical cohort and intervention studies in neuroimaging and neurofeedback involving patients with Parkinson’s disease and depression.

The project
The Track-PD study (https://www.springermedizin.de/de/the-track-pd-study-protocol-of-alongitudinal-ultra-high-field-i/18251170) is coordinated by neurologist Dr Mark Kuijf and neurosurgeon Prof. Yasin Temel and includes an internationally unique high-field (7 Tesla) MRI longitudinal follow-up study of patients with Parkinson’s disease. The research group of Prof. David Linden (https://www.maastrichtuniversity.nl/david.linden) develops and evaluates novel neuromodulation interventions, with a focus on neurofeedback with functional magnetic resonance imaging signals. There are also considerable interests in ambulatory monitoring, and in the recruitment and assessment of people affected by particular genetic variants associated with neurodevelopmental disorders.

Tasks
The postholder will support the logistics of several studies and also conduct assessments and some data analysis. He/she will work across two main sites, Maastricht University Medical Center and the academic department of psychiatry at location Vijverdal . Appropriate training and mentorship will be provided. Opportunities for development of a research career will be provided to interested candidates.

Examples of specific tasks:

  • Patient recruitment and psychometric assessments
  • 7T MRI assessments with patients
  • Coordination and planning of TRACK-PD follow-up visits
  • Management of study databases
  • Communication with ethics committees and study monitors
  • Preparation of and participation in consortium meetings
  • Contribution to data analysis and scientific publications

Requirements

Selection criteria
We are looking for highly motivated candidates who are enthusiastic about research in mental health and clinical neuroscience. Suitable candidates will have a Masters level degree in psychology or neuroscience (or PhD) or a similar qualification. They will have interest and some experience in psychological assessments and preferably also with MRI analysis. Good IT skills are also a requirement. The postholder needs to speak Dutch fluently and have good communication skills in English. Ideally, candidates would have successfully completed the Basiscursus Regelgeving en Organisatie voor Klinisch Onderzoekers (BROK®) or need to obtain it in the first six months of the position. Willingness to collaborate in international consortia and enthusiasm for interaction with our patient user groups are further prerequisites.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: The position will be initially for 1 year, with option for extension to a total of 4 years.

Successful candidates will be offered contracts on scale 10, max € 4.670 gross per month according to the Dutch university collective bargaining agreement. An 8% holiday and an 8.3% year-end allowance is also provided.
