The Department of Geoscience & Remote Sensing at the TU Delft is looking for a technician to assist in managing and maintaining its network of in-situ and remote sensing equipment within the framework of the Ruisdael observatory for atmospheric sciences (http://ruisdael-observatory.nl).

Job description

You will assist a senior technician in installing, managing and maintaining a large number of different sensors (e.g., weather radars, radiometers, weather stations etc..) for the Ruisdael observatory. You will be working in a small team of approximately five colleagues. However the Ruisdael project itself consists of a large network of almost one hundred people in the Netherlands. 

You will be working mostly at the TU Delft, but with frequent field visits to the sites where the sensors are situated. Most probably you will spend 40% in the field and 60% at the TU Delft. 

The key job responsibilities of the successful candidate for this Technician position include:

  • Provide technical support to staff members and students for the installation/deployment of new equipment, including during measurement campaigns.
  • Plan and schedule regular trips to the measurement sites in Cabauw, Delft, Rotterdam and Lutjewad for repairs, maintenance, calibration and quality control.
  • Establish rules and procedures for the secure operation and maintenance of sensors.
  • Maintain a detailed logbook documenting all maintenance, repairs and change of settings.
  • Help maintain and up-to-date inventory of available equipment and supplies.

Requirements

The ideal candidate should be tech-savvy, detail-oriented with a background in electrical or mechanical engineering (or equivalent) and an affinity for performing technical work and small repairs. The need to have skills are:

  • Ability to repair electronic and mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to quickly identify and troubleshoot problems.
  • Ability to work in a team, plan and prioritize tasks.
  • Good level in English. Knowledge of Dutch is a plus.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 2 years.

  • A salary according to the Collective Labor Agreement of the Dutch Universities, plus 8% holiday allowance and an end-of-year bonus of 8.3%.
