The Faculty of Arts

Job description

The Faculty of Arts is built on a long-standing tradition of four centuries. Our mission is to be a top-ranking faculty with both excellent education and world-quality research, with a strong international orientation, firmly rooted in the north of the Netherlands. We create knowledge and new insights and share its benefits with society. We work at a modern, broad and international institution, educating over 5,000 Dutch and international students to become forward-looking, articulate and independent academics and professionals. We form a hardworking and diverse team of 700 staff members.

What will you be working on and teaching?
Our Computational Linguistics group in the Centre for Language and Cognition (CLCG) at the University of Groningen is still expanding, and we are looking for two enthusiastic assistant professors in the areas of speech and language technology, artificial intelligence, data science, or computational social science. You will teach in the BSc and MSc Information Science programmes at the Faculty of Arts, as well as the Erasmus Mundus Research Master in Language and Communication Technologies. These include courses on a wide range of topics within information and communication science as well as the supervision of Bachelor and Master theses, where our vision is to combine research with education. In addition, you will develop new courses in your area of expertise to strengthen the current curriculum. We are particularly welcoming applicants who expand or complement our current areas of research and are therefore open to new lines of research as part of or connected to the fields mentioned above. The new assistant professor will be working as part of the CLCG, which is the institutional home of all language and cognition research carried out within the Faculty of Arts. The Computational Linguistics group of CLCG provides a vibrant working atmosphere performing state-of-the-art research in all major areas of Natural Language Processing, see: https://www.rug.nl/research/clcg/research/cl/
