The School of Business and Economics is looking for a Communications Officer to join the School of Business Economics’ Marketing and Communications (M&C) team.

Job description

In this role, you will be responsible for shaping, executing and monitoring internal communications activities within the School of Business and Economics, with the objective of building engagement among staff and fostering a collaborative, transparent and engaging work environment.

You will join an international, dynamic team of 8 people responsible for marketing, recruitment and communications at the School of Business and Economics.

As an internal communications officer, your main tasks will include the following:

  • Co-develop communication strategies and plans to help the School meet its internal communication goals.
  • Ensure that the School’s key initiatives and projects are successfully communicated within the organisation.
  • Act as the community manager for the staff intranet.
  • Develop content to support internal communication activities (news items, videos, podcasts, visuals for screens, etc.).
  • Together with the other communication officers, manage the School’s social media platforms.
  • Support with internal communication response to crisis situations.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years’ experience in a similar position; experience in internal communication is an advantage.
  • Excellent knowledge and experience with online tools/platforms and with content creation.
  • Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills.
  • Ability to understand organisational functions, roles and communication requirements, to enable the design of contextualised and tailored content for internal audiences.
  • Experience with website/platform design.
  • Experience with using design applications (e.g. Canva, InDesign, Photoshop).
  • Excellent team player.
  • Fluent in English (writing and speaking) and proficiency in Dutch (B1 level, or the ability to reach this level within two years). English is the main language of communication.
  • Relevant HBO+ level or university degree.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: one year, with the possibility of a permanent contract afterwards based on a mutual match.

We offer a 0.6 FTE appointment for the period of one year, with the possibility of a permanent contract afterwards based on a mutual match. Remuneration will be according to scale 9 of the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities, depending on education and relevant work experience. This implies a gross monthly salary between € 3.098,00 and € 4.257,00 per month (based on a full-time appointment). Each year the standard salary is supplemented with a holiday allowance of 8% and an end-of-year bonus of 8.3%.

The university’s relocation policy stipulates that the selected candidate is supported to move to (the vicinity of) Maastricht. If the candidate is not already living in Maastricht (or its surroundings), they will be eligible for moving allowances. Other secondary conditions include a pension scheme, extensive leave entitlements, commuting allowance, parental and partner leave, and more.
