Are you passionate about student well-being and supporting students in case of study related issues, then this may just be the ideal job for you. We are looking for an experienced Study advisor, to expand our team with.

Job description

We are the Faculty of Science and Engineering (FSE), the youngest of six faculties at Maastricht University, the Netherlands. Our faculty is home to several outstanding departments and institutions covering education and research in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) as well as our liberal arts and sciences colleges.

As of January 2023, we are looking for a Study adviser (0.8 fte) to join our team. As a Study advisor you will work with students of one of our largest bachelor programmes, the Maastricht Science Programme, our new Bachelor’s in Circular Engineering and three master’s programmes (Imaging Engineering, Systems Biology & Biobased Materials). Additional programmes may become part of your portfolio as our faculty grows.

Tasks

  • You guide and coach students in making study related choices.
  • You discuss their personal development and plans for the future; you help them get the most out of their study.
  • You collaborate with the students in developing their talents and skills further and help them make a study plan.
  • You help with transition from previous education to their current programme.
  • You provide help to students that encounter study delay, especially if the delay is related to illness or family circumstances.
  • You are well informed about the possibilities within the different study programmes and the faculty and advise the students accordingly.
  • You are well informed about the academic policies, rules and regulations, and other program requirements, within the different study programmes and advise the students accordingly.
  • You co-develop and coordinate workshops to support students in accomplishing specific milestones in their academic career.
  • You collaborate on study enhancing initiatives brought forward by the student or staff community.
  • You inform students about other support within Maastricht University and refer them when needed.
  • You make suggestions on policy and process improvements and implement them when possible, based on your contact with the students
  • You are a member of SUMa, the council for academic advising and student guidance at UM, which works on university-wide strategies regarding student guidance.

Requirements

  • You have a relevant HBO and/or university education; and/or equivalent work experience.
  • You had formal training in individual counselling or coaching.
  • Relevant work experience in an (higher) educational environment is of added value.
  • You are an open-minded, easily accessible, culturally sensitive, well-balanced and flexible individual.
  • Your proficiency of the English language is excellent (minimum Cambridge C1 or equivalent).
  • You are capable of absorbing new knowledge and information and applying it.
  • You are independent and are able to work under pressure.

Conditions of employment

We offer a fixed-term contract for one year with a competitive salary for a position of 32 hours a week. Depending on performance, the position is eligible for extension. On top of your annual salary, there is an annual holiday allowance (8% of annual income) and an annual end-of-year bonus (8.3% of annual income).

The position comes with a number of additional benefits, including:

  • A gross month salary between € 2.818,- and max. € 3.764,- depending on level of work experience (UFO profile ‘studie loopbaanadviseur’ level 3, scale 8);
