Job description

Would you like the opportunity to create a strong, world-class research team within the section of Dynamics and Control at Mechanical Engineering Department of the Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e)? Are you a standout colleague who fosters a collaborative network with other academics who work on the topic within the department, university and industry? We are looking for an outstanding candidate who has knowledge on several relevant domains of Dynamical Systems and Control. Next to your research quality, educational skills are very important as you will develop and teach several courses at both undergraduate and graduate level.

The position is open immediately, but the starting date is flexible.

The dynamics of engineering systems play a central role in the design for their operational functionality. Examples are robots, autonomous vehicles, high-tech equipment for the semi-conductor industry, electron microscopes, manufacturing systems, MEMS devices, transportation networks, medical devices, and many more. The thorough understanding of the dynamics of engineering systems, including aspects of both modelling and analysis, is a key discipline within (mechanical) engineering. In addition, it is an important prerequisite to the automatic control of engineering systems. Hence, it is tightly connected to the discipline of systems and control, which focusses on the fundamentals of ensuring that engineering systems can operate safely and with desired performance. Control is also the central factor in our desire to make engineering systems increasingly autonomous.

Within the Dynamics and Control section of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, we foster the vision that the fruitful synergy between the fields of dynamical systems and control is highly beneficial in taking on the future societal and industrial challenges in the fields of high-tech systems, mobility, sustainability and health. We intensively collaborate within the section and department and with industrial partners within innovative research projects and highly value societal and industrial valorization, e.g., in relevant application domains, such as, e.g., high-tech systems, autonomous and cooperative vehicles, nano opto-mechatronics, robotics, medical devices and manufacturing systems. Moreover, we provide high-quality and challenging education, continuously investing in educational innovation. The section has a broad funding base and a strong track record in attracting industrial funding and in engaging in international collaborations.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering of the TU/e seeks to hire an outstanding faculty member at the level of associate or full professor within the field of Dynamical Systems and Control, who should play a leading role in addressing these challenges and trends in the above-mentioned areas. The candidate should have proven experience in two or more of the following core disciplines: Dynamical systems theory, Systems & Control, Dynamic modelling of engineering systems, Experimental techniques, Equipment and system design, or Knowledge on relevant application domains such as, for example, high-tech systems, robotics, mechatronics, smart mobility, health applications, smart industry, energy systems, etc. The candidate is a team player who contributes to managing the activities in the section, together with colleague associate/full professors. You should have the ambition to contribute to the creation of a strong, internationally renowned research group, while fostering a collaborative network with other academics working on the topic within the group, the department, the university and industry.
