At the Law & Health Care (LHC) department of Erasmus School of Health Policy & Management (ESHPM), we are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Assistant Professor in International Health Law.

Job description

As an assistant professor in international health law, your primary tasks are researching international health law, developing courses on international health law, and lecturing. Research and education each take about half your time. Your students will be students of the Health Economics Policy and Law master program at ESHPM.

Requirements

As an assistant professor in health law at ESHPM, you have the following:

  • an LL.M degree, preferably in international law, human rights law, or health law, with excellent results;
  • a Ph.D., preferably in international law, human rights law, or health law;
  • several years of experience as a post-doc researcher or junior lecturer;
  • received the BKO certificate (or comparable proof of teaching abilities);
  • excellent language skills in English, verbally as well as in writing;
  • the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Conditions of employment

This is a full-time position for an indefinite period. The intended start date is May 1st, 2023. 

In accordance with the conditions applied at Erasmus University Rotterdam as indicated in the Collective Labour Agreement (cao NU) of the Dutch universities, the salary is dependent on the candidate’s knowledge and experience and is set at a minimum of € 4.814,- and a maximum of € 6.181,- (scale 12) gross per month, on a fulltime basis.

The EUR has attractive employment conditions, including 8% holiday pay, a year-end bonus of 8.3% and a very generous leave scheme. Furthermore, the EUR is affiliated with the ABP pension scheme and we offer partially paid parental leave. Employees can also make use of EUR facilities, such as the Erasmus sports center and the university library.

Erasmus School of Health Policy & Management (ESHPM)

Erasmus School of Health Policy & Management (ESHPM) of Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR) is leading in the Netherlands with its educational and research activities, focused on policy and management topics in health care. ESHPM provides a bachelor program, five master's programs, a pre-master program and postgraduate education.

At ESHPM, research and education are closely intertwined. Knowledge and experience from various scientific disciplines such as economics, law, social-medical sciences, organization science and public administration are brought together and applied in health care. This multidisciplinary approach to teaching and research is unique.

Law & Health Care (LHC)
The assistant professor will be assigned to the LHC department within ESHPM, a relatively small section with a staff of 13. The teaching and research of LHC focus on legal issues relating to (health) care. These issues in healthcare delivery, insurance, and financing are addressed from national and international perspectives. The focus is always on human rights and the position of the vulnerable. Within the department, activities focus on patient rights, forced care, medical liability, end-of-life decisions, access to care, and the equitable distribution of (health) care, among others.
