Job description

This postdoc position is part of the project "Towards a new belligerency? Explaining changing attitudes on the willingness to fight for one's country". In this project, we will examine what explains the growing willingness to fight. Our unit of analysis will be societies and their average willingness to fight, rather than individual level data. We will examine to what extent changing levels of conflict in a country's vicinity, economic crises, terrorist incidences and societal polarization correlate with the growing willingness to fight. The position is funded for a period of ten months, starting no later than 1 May 2023.

Your duties
  • Process and analyze data on citizens' attitudes on their willingness to fight
  • Organize citizen panels drawn from student populations to discuss and contextualize the main findings from our analyses
  • Organize a conference with societal partners
  • Contribute to joint publications on the findings of the project

Requirements

  • PhD in Political Science, Peace and Conflict Studies, Sociology, Social Psychology or a closely related field
  • Excellent advanced quantitative research skills
  • A proven track record in publishing in high-quality international refereed journals
  • Willingness to work in a team

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 9 months.

A challenging position in a socially involved organization. On full-time basis the remuneration amounts to a minimum gross monthly salary of €2,960 (scale 10)
and a maximum €4,670 (scale 10), depending on your education and experience. The job profile: is based on the university job ranking system and is vacant for at least 1 FTE.

The initial employment contract will affect a period of 10 months.
